Job Description

Block is seeking an experienced Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) Lead to oversee security operations on a global scale. This role oversees the day to day operations of the GSOC, and will be responsible for leading a team of security professionals in monitoring, assessing, and responding to security incidents across our distributed workforce and business operations worldwide. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in security operations, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of implementing effective security measures to safeguard personnel, assets, and information.

Reporting to the Head of Security Technology & Strategic Programs, this position is responsible for maturing the GSOC’s predictive analysis capabilities, including strategic analysis, employee/office outreach frameworks, risk assessments, criminal trends, and other issues which may impact the safety and security of Block’s people, business operations, and reputation.

This role will also partner closely with our Information Security team, with the ideal candidate having familiarity with cyber threat intelligence methodologies, understanding of common malware, threat actors and their TTPs.


This position will be based in St. Louis, MO, as the team operates in a hybrid model.

 

You Will:

  • Lead and manage a team of security analysts and operators to ensure the effective operation of the GSOC. 

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop and implement staffing strategies, including recruitment, training, and performance management, to maintain a highly skilled and motivated team. 

  • Oversee 24/7 monitoring of security systems, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and threat intelligence feeds.

  • Coordinate responses to security incidents, including escalation, investigation, and remediation efforts, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.

  • Develop and maintain incident response plans, playbooks, and procedures to ensure timely and effective responses to security incidents. 

  • Analyze security data and trends to assess the organization’s security posture and recommend proactive measures to mitigate risks. 

  • Build regular reports and briefings to leadership on security incidents, trends, and mitigation strategies. 

  • Stay abreast of emerging security technologies and best practices to continually enhance the organization’s security posture. 

  • Foster strong relationships and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including IT, Facilities, HR, Counsel, and others to ensure alignment on security objectives and shared priorities.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience leading and/or supervising a Security Operations Center, which includes direct people management experience

  • Strong understanding of security principles, practices, and technologies, including physical security, cybersecurity, and risk management. 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. 

  • Proven experience in incident response, crisis management, and emergency operations.

  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours and travel as needed. 

  • Ability to navigate between strategic thinking and tactical solutions.

  • You are an altruistic servant leader and are consistently humble, self-aware, honest, and transparent.

  • You demonstrate curiosity and a growth mindset; foster an environment that supports learning, innovation, and principled risk-taking; and exhibit resilience in the face of change and uncertainty.

  • The ability to think broadly and maintain a holistic perspective that considers data, analytics, and different parts of the business when making plans and shaping the team's strategy.

 

Even Better:

  • Certifications such as CISSP, CPP, etc

  • Experience in a Fusion Center environment. 

  • Experience working in a global or multinational technology company is highly preferred.

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $111,700 - USD $167,500
Zone B: USD $103,800 - USD $155,800
Zone C: USD $98,200 - USD $147,400
Zone D: USD $89,400 - USD $134,000
