Job Description

Technical Program Management in Cash Engineering

Cash App’s Technical Program Management (TPM) function is relatively new, having been established in 2022. Consisting of 7 experienced team members, it is a small but very high impact team - driving our most complex, broad and strategically important programs. The programs are diverse; ranging from major product releases, infrastructure migration, decomposition of large services and to programs that improve operational effectiveness (e.g. cost and reliability).

 

This Role

Reporting to Cash’s Head of Engineering Operations, you will be a key member of the office of the Head of Engineering. You will lead Cash’s TPM function, being accountable for the team’s engagement and performance. That means ensuring the team has strategic context, is growing in capability, is working on the most impactful things and is delivering results. You will also be a key contributor to the design and execution of Cash Engineering’s strategic planning processes, ensuring that the Engineering organization produces annual plans, quarterly OKRs and key initiatives that drive our product and business objectives forward.

 

In this role you will: 

  • Build and lead a world class Technical Program Management organization by attracting, growing and engaging the best possible talent

  • Provide the kind of exceptional leadership and management skills necessary to ensure the TPM team is working on the most important things and performing at its best

  • Partner effectively with Engineering, Product, Design and other leaders in the context of program prioritization and delivery

  • Work closely with non-development Business functions (Business Operations, Finance & Strategy, Comms etc) to ensure Engineering has a smooth and effective planning cadence

  • Work closely with peers in Engineering Operations to improve overall operational effectiveness for Cash Engineering

Qualifications

You have:

  • Very high levels of emotional intelligence; empathy, self-awareness, self-management, social/organizational awareness and social skills

  • 15+ years of program management or related experience operating as an Engineering Program Manager (or TPM) of a technical team, leading a suite of requirements gathering and implementation

  • 6+ years of leading high performing TPM teams, ideally in fast-scaling or recently scaled technology companies

  • Impact oriented decision making skills with an ability to identify how initiatives and effort can move the needle for the organization

  • Experience bringing maturity to processes, leading teams, developing relationships, and managing end-to-end for a portfolio of concurrent programs

  • A keen understanding and track record of what it takes to run  planning processes in a scaled and distributed context

  • Experience managing and releasing complex, high-quality features in partnership with product teams at scale 

  • Detail oriented and ability to drive initiatives to completion

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving

  • Strong program management experience with ability to influence various stakeholders including technical leaders and executive management

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills

 

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
