Job Description

We are looking for a creative, results-oriented, data-driven leader to join Square as a the Product Marketing Lead focused on Square API (Register API, eCommerce API, Items API, Reporting API and Employees API, App Marketplace). You will be responsible for helping to define our product strategy, setting and executing the go-to-market and post launch marketing strategy for our API products. This should incorporate building a loyal and engaged developer community and growing demand from our merchants. You should be highly strategic and able to execute, have expertise driving customer and market insights, have experience building developer-orientated businesses, and have led product management or marketing programs at a consumer or SMB focused technology company or related strategy consulting experience.

You have a consistent track record of cross-functional leadership and exhibit excellent analytical and communication skills.


You will:

  • Partner and collaborate with Product Managers, Sales Executives, Developer Community Evangelists and Engineers to identify target customers (developers and merchants), their needs, and to define how Square’s current and new products can meet those needs

  • Define and drive the go-to-market and post launch marketing plans working extensively with our in house creative and channel marketing teams to execute these plans

  • Partner with Analytics teams to drive insights about how to grow through product and marketing refinements

  • Understand developer and merchant needs through surveys, interviews, and product usage

  • Be a conduit for the voice of the developer and merchant to the product team and company

  • Review competitive offerings and drive ongoing differentiation

  • Offer creative problem solving and analytical reasoning

  • Be a strong people leader

Qualifications

  • A BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience, MBA preferred

  • 8+ years of professional experience, management consulting, product management, and/or product marketing experience preferred

  • 5+ years working in a product marketing capacity ideally (partnering closely with product management and/or engineering to represent market requirements and with sales and acquisition channels to support product launches)

  • Previous background in a developer-oriented company

  • Excellent quantitative analytical skills

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate complex, large-scale concepts clearly and simply

  • Comfort in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, start-up environment

  • Experience leading by influence and driving results in a highly cross-functional and matrixed organization
