Job Description
The Zone Leader is an hourly position and is considered a very critical role within the Manufacturing/Distribution environment. They are the first line of leadership to a team of hourly employees.
Primary Responsibilities:
Zone Leaders at Steelcase have the responsibility of maintaining and improving their work cell and treating it as their own business while supporting and demonstrating the company’s Core Values and expected People Behaviors. The majority of their time is spent on the floor focused on three main objectives:
1) Ensuring Process Discipline through Standard Work, Training, Coaching, 5S, etc
2) Maintaining business documents and Driving performance around Safety, Quality, Cost, and Execution of Schedule
3) Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement
Qualifications
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to use Lean tools to run and improve the business/work cell
- Strong interpersonal skills that encourage, coach, lead and mentor employees with a continuous improvement mindset
- Foster an environment that builds trust / teamwork through open communication
- Possess a high level of energy and a passion to win
- Ability to cross train employees throughout their area
- Ability to recognize and set priorities regarding manpower and production schedules
- Must be able to effectively use problem solving methods to achieve process improvements
- Strong focus on both internal and external customers
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required, Higher Education preferred
- Leadership Experience or Customer Focus equivalent
- Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
