Job Description

The Academic Research Commissioner will research facts on university governance and coordinate student research proposals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Work with the SSMU Vice-President (University Affairs) and the SSMU Senators to research facts of university governance and student affairs at McGill University and other peer institutions of postsecondary education;

2) Work with the SSMU Vice-President (University Affairs) and the SSMU Senators to coordinate student research proposals;

3) Attend meetings of SSMU’s Senate Caucus;

4) Sit on a minimum of one university level committee;

5) Write a detailed exit report, to be submitted to the SSMU Vice-President (University Affairs) by no later than April 30th.

Qualifications

Developed knowledge of both SSMU and McGill’s governance structure;

Substantial historical memory of SSMU-McGill relations;

Ability to coordinate and work with SSMU Senators and commissioned researchers;

Organization skills;

Ability to negotiate confidential information and documents;

Application of knowledge in concrete policy development in conjunction with the Vice-President University Affairs and SSMU Senators

Additional Information

• Paid position: $12.67 per hour

• Hours: On average 5-10 hours per week

• Contract: September 1st, 2016 through April 30th, 2017
