Job Description

 

Reporting to the Chief Electoral Officer, appointed by the Society, the Elections Coordinator(s) (“EC”) shall be responsible for supporting the Elections SSMU team in the coordination and setting up of tabling booths for SSMU elections, as well as promoting elections on campus.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Abide by the rules and guidelines governing elections, and do not contravene the Constitution, Internal Regulations, Plans, or Policies of the Society;

  2. Exercise impartiality;

  3. Report to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on matters pertaining to the responsibilities outlined herein;

  4. Promote voting among SSMU members in-person and virtually, with an emphasis on in-person activities when health regulations allow;

  5. Provide physical support in the installation and set up of tabling booths in the McGill Downtown Campus (lifting up to 75lbs of equipment, such as tables, chairs, and boxes, with assistance as required); and

  6. Liaise with Chief Electoral Officer and Deputy Electoral Officer on matters pertaining to voting and campaigning periods, including but not limited to, verification of authorized campaigning in the McGill Downtown Campus and on social media channels.

 

 

Qualifications

  1. Diligence and impartiality in the execution of duties;

  2. Knowledge of instant run-off voting and other forms of voting;

  3. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs;

  4. Ability to work effectively under pressure;

  5. Highly organized and strong attention to detail;

  6. Strong communication skills both in English and French an asset;

  7. No officer of Elections SSMU may be:

  • a member of the Legislative Council, the Board of Directors, an Officer, a member of the Judicial Board, or a member of the Senate Caucus;

  • a former member of the Legislative Council or the Board of Directors, or a former Officer;

  • a councilor or executive of a Student Association;

  • a member of Society Staff in any other capacity;

  • a member of the editorial staff of any campus media; or

  • a candidate or member of a campaign committee.

  • Contract 50 hours 
  • Deadline to apply is on June 16th, 2023
  • Starting immediately until May 31, 2024.
