Job Description

An Accounting Manager at TGG serves as an Accounting Manager for multiple clients, across various industries, concurrently. The Accounting Manager is responsible for all financial accounting and transaction processing. With Staff Associate support and following the “TGG Way™” best practices and processes, Accounting Managers provide Controllers with accurate and complete financial statements. Understanding complex accounting standards and reconciliations, Accounting Managers are required to meet tight deadlines, manage multiple clients, and perform a multitude of accounting activities with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. 

Accounting Managers rely heavily on data provided by Staff Associates to be successful in this position. Therefore, Accounting Managers play a key role in teaching and mentoring staff (both TGG and client staff) to help them understand a variety of advanced accounting and business topics. Interacting with clients on a daily basis and setting an example for other staff, an Accounting Manager must present themselves in a professional manner and be able to communicate effectively with different personality styles. Accounting Managers are expected to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to quality, have the drive to grow professionally, and a desire to create meaningful relationships with other employees, our clients and their staff. An Accounting Manager will report to the assigned Controller for each client team.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Review and process payroll from start to finish including quarterly 941 reconciliations
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts 
  • Build, maintain and use cash flow forecasts
  • Identify and implement proper revenue recognition and fixed asset capitalization policies
  • Assist with physical inventory counts, audits, and tax support (as necessary)
  • Review, verify, and understand source documentation, including recognition of appropriate accounting action when necessary (e.g. proper amortization of rent)
  • Supervise and perform entire month-end close processes to include financial statement set up
  • Management of complex accounting processes
  • Provide accurate and timely financial statements to Controller
  • Investigate issues escalated from Staff Associates (internet research when necessary)
  • Ensure maintenance of organized filing systems, both physical and electronic according to proper record retention policies
  • Write financial statement notes and provide insight to management
  • Invoicing set up and approvals
  • Identify, research and implement cost savings opportunities
  • Design or improve chart of accounts
  • Encourage adherence and make suggestions for improvement or efficiency to current policies and procedures whenever possible
  • Identify, research and create policies and procedures where necessary
  • Perform ad hoc tasks at client’s request
  • Ensure proper maintenance of basic HR documents for client employees (e.g. 401k enrollments, pay changes, final paychecks)
  • Support of budget and forecast activities
  • Cultivate and maintain client internal staff relationships in person and via phone/email
  • Maintain professional presence at client locations
  • Manage tasks that have been done and need to be done, helping to keep other team members on track
  • Provide frequent updates to other team members on client progress, issues, etc.
  • Navigate through and maintain complex Excel models
  • Export data from accounting systems
  • Daily time entry into TGG time tracking system
  • Attend required staff meetings and be punctual
  • Meet minimums for billable hours and attend required training
  • Required daily travel to client locations 
  • Review the work product and provide performance feedback and training to Staff Associates or client internal staff
  • Set, manage, maintain and hit deadlines with proper communication
  • Lead client communication when applicable (in person and electronically)
  • Abide by all TGG policies and procedures
  • Review and supervise all responsibilities and tasks of Staff Associates
  • Take a proactive approach to finding new work or adding value to a client
  • Manage client project to include profitability, work load and resource needs



Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Experience, Training & Education

  •  Intermediate level understanding of managerial and financial accounting principles normally represented by a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combinations of industry experience and training
  •  Previous management experience is a plus
  •  Be intellectually curious, proactive and have a passion to learn new things 
  •  Be able to review financial statements for errors
  •  Have a strong understanding of foundational accounting principles (e.g. structure of a P&L, BS, T accounts, matching principle, pre-paid vs. accrual vs. deferred, bank vs. book balance, etc.) with the ability to explain and teach to other staff
  •  Be able to understand implications of accounting entries and the effect on all financial statements
  •  Ability to communicate and teach general accounting concepts to clients and staff
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and be discrete when necessary 
  •  Enjoy daily client interaction
  • Must have the ability to clearly communicate with others 
  •  High proficiency in internet based searches 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook (especially email and calendar functions) and PowerPoint
  • High proficiency in Excel (e.g. sumIF, pivot tables, vlookups, etc.) 
  • Ability to work in a consulting type environment with multiple clients and staff teams – ability to start and stop on work multiple times throughout the day
  • Previous experience in QuickBooks or other accounting software is a plus 
  •  Be able to work 40-50 hours per week
  • Have a professional attitude and appearance
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
