Job Description
The Compositing Technical Director is a developer who creates and maintains Python, PySide, and C++ tools which interface with Foundry’s Nuke, Autodesk’s Shotgun, and proprietary software, to support compositing artists working in a VFX pipeline. Compositing TDs work directly with Compositing Supervisors and the Department Head to design and build tools and workflows to improve the efficiency of compositing artists and automate tasks.
Under the direction of the Department Head, your main missions will be:
Develop, document, and maintain Python tools, PySide UIs, Nuke Gizmos, C++ NDK plugins, Flask webapps, etc.
Support show production with troubleshooting and custom development
Determine, design, document and maintain re-usable code modules
Write documentation for existing tools
Design and deliver training to artists on our tools
Submit your own code for code reviews and review other’s code
Communicate technical issues to IT
Prior experience with Nuke, Shotgun, or compositing is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience with:
- Python
- PySide/PyQt/Qt
- Git and collaborative workflows (code review, standards, etc.)
- Linux
- Experience with some or all of:
- Nuke, the Nuke Python API, Nuke Gizmos, BlinkScript
- Shotgun Python API
- Tractor API
- C++, especially Nuke’s NDK
- Flask webapps, including JavaScript/AJAX/reactive UIs
Desired qualifications:
- Knowledge of the overall VFX or Animation pipeline
- Strong Nuke skills
- Experience as a compositing artist
