Job Description

Serves as lead within a program on nutrition curricula, planning, policy development and training. Ensures the delivery of high-quality nutrition for the State Head Start Program that provides children the nutrients their bodies need to stay healthy, active and strong. Promote activities to help pregnant women and children achieve and maintain healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle. Contributes to program improvement through evaluation, self-assessment, and other program development efforts.

1.Develop, implement and evaluate systems for the delivery of nutrition and food safety services.

2.Oversees Child Care Food Program, planning menus and recipes in coordination with Food Service Managers. Ensures that USDA records and reports are maintained and submitted, including funding applications.

3.Ensures children are served nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with State, Federal and Head Start regulations.

4.Assists in development of program training plan. Facilitates and provides training, coaching and technical assistance to staff, parents and volunteers. Supports food service staff in obtaining food safety certification.

5.Assists in developing and monitoring of nutrition budget. In coordination with supervisor and center staff, provides consultation to identify and prioritize materials and equipment needed related to nutrition education and food service delivery.

6.Responsible for lead on preparation and submission of USDA application. Assist in development and implementation of supplemental nutrition related projects.

7.Collaborate with education staff to plan and implement nutrition education activities for children. Ensure that nutrition education topics are included in parent training plans.

8.Develops and monitors special diets for children.

9.Oversees nutrition assessment process.

10.Monitor nutrition services throughout program. Recommends and implements program improvements and monitors the carrying out of these recommendations.

11.Reviews, monitors and provides technical assistance on the implementation of food preparation procedures including preparation, and storage, kitchen sanitation and cleanliness, food handling and dish washing procedures.

12.Ensures all food purchasing meets quality standards as well as agency and federal requirements. Serve as liaison with food vendors.

13.Participate in agency-wide workgroups. Act as a resource to other Telamon programs as needed for nutrition and USDA related support.

14.Creates, files and maintains reports and documentation. Composes and proofreads correspondence and reports.

15.Meets federal, state, and program documentation requirements by maintaining accurate, objective, complete, timely, and well-organized child and family records, both on paper and in designated on-line systems. Maintains confidentiality regarding students and families.

16.When in centers, protects the safety of children by implementing active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time.

17.Develop and document progress on professional development plan for self and assigned staff. Facilitates and engages in professional development activities to increase qualifications in accordance with Corporation’s Core Values.

18.The person in this position must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

19.Ensures the mobilization and documentation of matching/in-kind funds.

20.Oversees and reviews work of assigned volunteers.

21.Participates in staff meetings, committees and training sessions.

22.Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

This position has no direct supervisory duties but is considered a subject matter resource for others. The position involves quality control and training.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

•Current Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

•If not a Registered Dietitian, State Licensed Nutritionist with a Bachelor's Degree in nutrition, nutrition sciences, and/or dietetics and must meet State requirements for Licensed Nutritionist.

•Must be able to get certification for CPR and First Aid after hire and recertify as required.

•Minimum of one year of experience.

•Experience with programs serving children 0-6.

•Experience providing adult training and education preferred.

•Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance.Skills and Abilities

•Knowledge of nutrition resources in the community.

•Microsoft Office products and on-line client management systems.

Additional Information

•Work is performed mostly inside the facility.

•Driving/sitting for prolong periods of time.

•Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.

•Sitting walking, stooping, squatting, lifting (up to 30 lbs), carrying, pushing and climbing.

•Exposure to blood, other bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals and dirt.

•Subject to long periods of sitting and exposure to computer screen.

•Keyboarding and data entry, use of telephone.
