Job Description

The Billing Specialist position is responsible for processing and reconciling (medical, dental, etc.) premium payments for our clients.  The Billing Specialist is also responsible for accurately documenting client activity. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Processes premium payments for commercial, government or COBRA participants
  • Processes missed or gap premiums
  • Responds to client emails regarding employee coverage
  • Prepares monthly premium reconciliation report, adjustment report and client check requests for accounting department
  • Determines participant end date and processes all direct bill correspondence
  • Documents client activity
  • Resolves routine issues with internal departments
  • Maintains client plan audits
  • Reconciles premium payments to the data in our system
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma, some college preferred
  • 1 year previous billing experience preferred
  • Experience working with Excel spreadsheets
  • 2 years office/administrative work experience required
  • Previous experience working in the insurance industry or employee benefit arena, TPA preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic accounting and/or bookkeeping principles
  • Knowledge of employee benefit plans and insurance products
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Ability to organize and manage workload to meet department requirements & deadlines
  • Ability to calculate figures and reconcile accounts
  • Strong logic and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
