PIR: Premier Information Retrieval® will be a resultant product from the platform, IISS™ (Informational Interpretation Scientific Software). PIR will be designed as software for allergen detection, distinction, classification and analysis. The software will be introduced to global consumer markets in varying versions for smartphone, tablet, wearable and "smart" home applications as well as for commercial and medical markets respectively.

Job Description

As the Chief Software Architect for HL™, the selected candidate's primary role will be to provide hands-on architecture leadership, guidance and mentoring to HL's™ engineering teams for all resultant products from the IISS™ platform, specifically PIR: Premier Information Retrieval®. The selected candidate will also will be a close collaborator and trusted advisor to both the Director of Engineering and Senior Vice President of Engineering and ensure the delivery of high-quality, robust and scalable solutions.

HL™ is looking for a seasoned architect who is well-experienced in building new applications from scratch as well as having the ability to effectively refactor and integrate existing applications and has a strong understanding of "Big Data" and statistical analytics as applicable to the conditions of the PIR project. The selected candidate will have exceptional communications and negotiation skills combined with experience guiding the development of software and providing support for quality engineer analysts in implementing production quality solutions. The consumer product-end of the PIR project, it will consist of three distinct AQPs (Allergen Quantification Protocols): PIR QR (Quick Response); and PIR NFC (near-field communications). The Chief Software Architect will direct the development of these three key procedural elements in the informational interpretation software.

The Chief Software Architect will be a thought-leader with real-world business sense accompanied with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across functions.

Define a robust architecture for building new applications in the IISS™ domain, leveraging and enhancing existing building blocks or creating new reusable components

Provide technical leadership to the development teams

Provide assistance in building prototypes for the various PIR applications

Understand the long-term business objectives and suggest technical strategies to meet and/or complement those objectives via innovation through technology

Be responsive and decisive whenever an adjustment is imperative to product architecture per customer requirements, market conditions and technological evolution

Collaborate with other department, contractor and outside parties for engineering organization to gather all requirements for formulation of appropriate architecture required for system functionality

Work with the development team to translate the software architecture into design

Work closely with product management, engineering, quality assurance, sales and professional services teams throughout the organization





Additional Information

Essential Job Functions

  • Master's in computer science is preferred but not required


  • 10+ years experience in hands-on development and application design in the delivery of software products


  • 5+ years in an architect position in previous large scale software development projects


  • Must have demonstrable proficiency with several of the following technologies: Perl, Python, Java, Matlab, R, C, C++, Unix


  • Comfortable in a communications architecture to all levels of management and customers


  • Exceptional knowledge of software development methodologies and processes


  • Possess a track record that includes the design and release of high-quality, high-performance enterprise software products/applications


  • Application of modeling and software expertise for analysis of big data on complex R&D efforts


  • Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills


  • Preparation of briefing materials and technical reports


  • Strong time management, organization and prioritization skills


  • Possess skills in the following technological areas: J2EE, Web Services, XML, SOAP, XSL, HTML/DHTML and HTTP; as well as relational database design and OLAP

  • Summarize and communicate the intellectual content of technological information to both scientific and non-scientific audiences


  • Interact with stakeholders from multiple disciplines including engineering, biology, neuroscience, clinical, regulatory and policy teams


  • Demonstrable mastery of high-performance computing of the low-level, high-performance development skills needed to perform research on distributed, highly scalable architectures conducive to the evolving nature of PIR
