Job Description
The Onion is seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Public Relations Intern. The internship is slated to run 3 - 4 months. Ideal applicants should be able to work 24 hours per week (weekdays only) out of our Chicago, IL headquarters.
Day-to-day design responsibilities include:
compile and build media distribution lists
seed written and video content
track media hits/compile weekly media reports
research media outlets for future Onion Inc. coverage
write and distribute company press releases
support social media outreach
support Onion Inc. public relations strategy
Qualifications
Ideal candidates should possess the following skills:
Strong desire to learn the digital media public relations environment
Experience using many different forms of social media
Excellent writing and grammar skills
Quick learner, self-motivated, and able to multi task on multiple projects simultaneously
Works well under pressure and deadlines
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, proof-reading skills, the ability to work to deadlines and effectively multi-task. Ideal candidates will display a strong understanding of the Onion's unique brand and readership. Candidates pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing or another related field strongly preferred.
