Onion, Inc. is the parent company of some of the most respected and widely-read publications in digital media. Founded in 1988, the company established itself as a web pioneer in the mid-'90s when The Onion and its sister pop-culture publication, The A.V. Club, were some of the first well-known print products to start online incarnations. Today, Onion, Inc.'s websites reach more than 11 million unique visitors every month, an increase of almost 30 percent year-over-year.  

The A.V. Club is looking to expand the editorial staff in our Chicago office. The ideal candidate will be an excellent, versatile writer with a broad knowledge of pop culture and a specific knowledge of The A.V. Club. He or she should have experience writing about pop culture, and experience editing for other publications would be a huge plus. This writer/editor will be responsible for writing various types of pieces—from short Newswires to lengthier stories—on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will also be excited to grow into other areas: editing, brainstorming feature ideas, considering the big picture of our site, even creating sponsored content. (The ideal candidate will be wary but unafraid of the words “sponsored content” and “page views.”)

We are looking for someone (or someones) to become part of our club. We’re a small group of hard-working multi-taskers who share the goal of creating the best pop-culture coverage on the web. This new writer/editor will share that passion and enthusiasm. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work with us.

BA/BS degree is great, but not essential.

Moderate computer skills are essential.

Experience working in a CMS is a big plus.
