Job Description

The Onion is seeking a PR & Social Media Strategist for Onion Labs, The Onion’s in-house marketing and advertising agency. This person will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of all PR & Social Media programs to meet the defined goals and objectives of our Onion Labs advertising clients.

 

The PR & Social Media Strategist will oversee the social media channel management, on-going strategy development, and continual measurement & analysis of social media initiatives for our Onion Labs advertising clients. While this role is strategic, it will require proven hands-on experience executing PR tactics and managing social media channels. The right candidate will not only manage day-to-day activity but will also provide inventive and executable ideas about how to use PR & social media in new and engaging ways within campaigns.  


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Work with our Onion Labs Creatives to develop PR & social executions within our big ideas for clients.


  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive PR & social media strategy for clients that define how social media marketing techniques will be applied to increase visibility and traffic across all of a client’s brands and products.

 

  • Work with clients to explore and identify ways to integrate social media into business strategies and marketing campaigns. Apply marketing research and development methods to learn and understand emerging trends and technologies and to communicate this knowledge clearly and concisely.

 

  • Work with internal team of digital producers and account managers to assemble social media content creation recommendations / ideas to drive social engagement with The Onion audience.

 

  • Guide the big picture PR & social strategy for a range of clients. Make decisions and recommendations on the best type of social media channels and tactics, as well as timing and delivery.

 

  • Write and advise on social creative briefs and the creative process.

 

  • Define key performance indicators and implement measurement, analytics, and reporting methods to gauge success.

 

  • Help ensure the client accepts and understands the PR & social strategy for each campaign and understands results. Ensure the account manager handling the campaign understand the strategy behind the social media communications plan.

 


Qualifications


  • 5 – 7 years agency experience in public relations, marketing, mass communications or other related field
  • Strong writing, editing and proofing skills (these skills may be tested)
  • Sound knowledge of social media platform creation, design, content production, best practices, image collection, image rights and social media trends
  • Comfortable in a collaborative environment, and is considerate of others
  • Works well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment 
  • Strong multi-tasking, organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and understand complex concepts
