Technology is a key, and growing, part of our service offerings. We are committed to best-of-breed applications, automation, and solutions for managing funds and portfolios across our broad range of investment offerings. In addition to launching a dedicated advanced analytics team, we are currently consolidating our data assets into a large data lake on Amazon Web Services and providing a variety of API and programmatic access patterns.
RockCreek is looking for a VP of Engineering to oversee technical business strategy, provide technical leadership, and build engineering teams with a strong vision and a clear mandate. In addition to having technical knowledge of core engineering fields, you understand how all the pieces fit together into integrated systems and how those systems impact performance.
The VP of Engineering will bring deep technical skills within a specific domain and excellent communication skills, a focused and empathic approach to leadership, and a bold and action-biased attitude to hard engineering problems:
- Set the strategic direction of the engineering team, clearly establishing goals and objectives
- Source, recruit, screen, hire, grow, and retain talent

Familiarity with R, Python, D3.js and Data Science/Visualization tools are a plus
Practical industry experience working on AI, NLP, machine learning, or statistical analysis projects are a plus
Prior experience in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring cross-functional technical teams coupled with strong management and people development skills. You’ll need to delegate intelligently, deliver frequent and honest feedback, and deliver results
Ability to lead end-to-end development and release successful software solutions
Knowledge of AWS reference architectures, particularly in the context of:
- API Gateway
- Lambda functions and triggers from other AWS managed services
Appreciation of UI/UX, with understanding of Responsive & Adaptive Design principles
Disciplined approach to testing & quality assurance
Experience implementing core business strategies with technology by creating processes that scale, advancing architecture, and developing roadmaps
Experience managing vendors, budgets and delivery schedules
BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
