The Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging is one of eight departments in the School of Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) at the University of Auckland. It is recognised locally and internationally for anatomy and medical imaging education and research excellence, in particular in neuroscience, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems.

Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The main purposes of the position are to provide academic leadership through delivering high quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students including doctoral research students. Leading a research team that has national and international impact, publishing in tier 1 science journals and attracting research funding for the research pursuits. To engage in collaborative research efforts that improve the standing of the university. To work with Human Brain Bank staff and donors to advance human neuroscience endeavours. Advancing the ethos of the university by engaging in service work that is meaningful to the Department, Faculty and University as well as to the community as critic and conscience of society.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a field relevant to neurological anatomy, pathology, or neurodegenerative diseases, and will have a strong research interest in basic and clinical neuroscience and have expertise working with individuals and families with neurological diseases. You will be expected to develop strong interactions with the Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank and will be expected to interface with the public to facilitate brain donations to the brain bank. You will be expected to further develop your own research programme, ideally in collaboration with established anatomical and imaging research networks including human tissue banks within the School of Medical Sciences and the parent FMHS. Particular areas of strength are neurodegenerative diseases, cellular neuroscience, head and neck anatomy and molecular neuroscience.  

This is a full time (40 hours per week), permanent academic position

Remuneration: L4-SL3, $95,441-$118,103 dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications.
