The Liggins Institute was the University’s first Large Scale Research Institute. It is a world leading centre for translational research on maternal, fetal and child health; the impact of nutrition on health throughout life; epigenetic regulation of growth and development; the origins of non-communicable diseases, particularly metabolic, and knowledge transfer.

Our research programme focuses on how maternal, fetal and neonatal nutrition and the intrauterine environment affect fetal and postnatal growth, development and long-term health. We are also working to understand the causes and consequences of preterm birth and fetal growth restriction, which together affect more than 8,000 babies born in New Zealand each year.

Our Senior Research Programme Coordinator is responsible for supporting academics through the research lifecycle, from initial costing and submission of high-quality research proposals to the ongoing management of active projects and project closures.

You will be supporting research that really makes a difference to future health outcomes.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), 12 month fixed term (maternity leave cover) position.
Remuneration: $67,000 - $77,000 plus dependent on experience

About the team | Mō tō mātou rōpū

Reporting through to the Research Programme Manager, you will also be working closely with a tight knit team that includes a Research Services Manager, Research Programme Managers, and a Research Programme Coordinator.

This is an opportunity for a highly, organised, flexible and meticulous individual, who has research or research management experience and financial acumen. Your ability to build relationships and maintain a high level of customer service while proactively finding solutions to a range of complex issues will underpin your success in this position.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience developing or reviewing funding proposals.
  • Come with demonstrable experience of financial systems and processes.
  • Have experience in a complex organisation or a clinical research setting.
  • Adept at problem-solving, with the ability to effectively prioritise your own workload to meet deadlines.
  • Experience developing and monitoring project budgets, including forecasting, variations and expense approval
  • Strong understanding of a wide range of funder guidelines, policies and contract requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Be flexible and adaptable in a busy environment, balancing multiple demands to a high level of accuracy, with exceptional attention to detail.
