Kaiurungi – Schools and Community Engagement Adviser - Māori is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with targeted kura, wharekura, secondary schools, tauira Māori, teachers and school community groups, listening to their needs, and seeking opportunities to partner with them to support tauira Māori (predominantly year 9 to 12) and their whānau plan for and achieve their aspirations.

You will be responsible for leading Māori school student engagement and nurturing relationships with schools and the wider community. Working in partnership with the Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Māori to coordinate engagement activity and support prospective Māori students and their whānau to navigate their journey into the University.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position.

Salary range: 64,600 - 79,800 based on experience and qualifications.

About you | He kōrero mōu

We are looking for a welcoming, motivated person with drive and desire to make a positive difference to the Schools and Community Engagement Team through a proven record of successful stakeholder engagement skills and an approach to work that embraces manakitanga, whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, flexibility and diversity. 

To be successful in this position, you will need to have the following attributes:

  • A tertiary level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience of working with Māori stakeholders – iwi, enterprises, and community groups
  •  An understanding of the kura, wharekura and NZ
    secondary school systems
  • Experience developing and implementing processes,
    systems and services
  • Experience of working with and understanding the needs of a diverse range of clients
  • Agile experience, or an understanding of cross-function
    team ways of working in an agile environment.
  • Confident communicator in te reo Māori and in depth understanding of tikanga Māori
  • Demonstrable understanding, competence and confidence of te ao maori
  • Experience and understanding of equity issues in New
    Zealand especially with relation to Māori and Pacific
    students
  • Highly skilled at relationship nurturing and management at a professional level
  • Kia Whakamana i te Tangata - Acknowledging, maintaining
    and restoring the mana and tapu of individuals, whānau
    and communities
  • Evidence of understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in relation to their role, and commitment to te reo Māori and tikanga.
