Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Infectious Disease clinician, ideally with additional training in immunology, for a part time academic appointment in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology. This is a permanent position based at our Grafton Campus.

You will lead an innovative research programme, supervise postgraduate students, and contribute to high‑quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in health professional and biomedical disciplines. The department is internationally recognised for its translational research and strong collaborative culture.

This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician-researcher to impact research, education and clinical care.

Salary range:

• Senior Lecturer: $126,863 – $158,904 plus medical loading (pro‑rata)
• Associate Professor: from $165,808 plus medical loading (pro‑rata)
  Dependent on skills and experience.

This is a part time (16 hours per week) permanent role.

He kōrero mōu | About you | Our ideal candidate

You are an experienced Adult Infectious Disease physician with expertise in immunology, focussed on secondary and tertiary care for patients with severe infectious and immunologically mediated diseases. You bring clinical credibility, a strong research profile, and a proven track record in teaching and mentoring medical students and trainees. Collaborative by nature and culturally responsive in practice, you are motivated to contribute to research that improves health outcomes and to inspire the next generation of medical professionals

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or eligibility to obtain it)
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (or equivalent specialist qualification)
• A PhD or MD, or substantial research experience in infectious disease and/or immunology
• Proven ability to lead or contribute to high‑quality clinical and/or translational research and secure funding
• Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with a commitment to student development
• A clear focus on advancing health equity, particularly for Māori and Pacific communities
