The Four Guilds

The Guilds represent a very important part of Trackers. You may not always end up teaching in that Guild, but your affiliation is important. You don't need to know all the skills in these guilds, but it is key to have affinity and strong desire to develop them. The Trackers Village can take care of the rest (if you work your butt off).

Rangers Guild (Reconnect the Village) - The Rangers are the hunters and protectors of the village. Versed in the arts of wilderness survival, tracking, and awareness, they remind us all of our affinity to the wild and ways of the forest. If you are partial to tracking, wilderness survival, archery, or bow making then join the Rangers Guild.

Wilders Guild (Restore the Earth) - The Wilders are caretakers, restoring the land to what it once was and beyond. They tend to the balance of the village, guiding the needs of the people into harmony with the rhythms of life in all seasons. If you live the way of rural or urban homesteading, love bacon, appreciate the hunt for wild plants, like goats more than people (awkward), want to restore the wild into every nook and cranny of this world then join the Wilders Guild.

Mariners Guild (Respect the Waters) - The Mariners Guild thrive by the waterways. They fish, build boats, and connect our world by wind and sea. Mariners chart their course by the stars. They are masters of healthy economy, barter, and trade while by salty wisdom, they demand respect for the waters and all life in its depths. If you can fish (we mean really fish), kayak, sail, tie fantastic knots, play marbles, and talk like a pirate, then join the Mariners Guild.

Artisans Guild (Remember our Story) - The Artisans Guild regale us with their theater. Their trade and circus open our eyes to both noble purpose and possibilities. The Artisans are story keepers; travelers bare-of-foot, walking and sleeping under the twilight sky. They recall and share a timeless grief and praise from the very stars above. Their words, lyrics, and tales, can cut to bone and bleed us dry. They ask one and all: please, always... Remember Our Story. If you are a fine crafts person (woodworking, sewing, leather, or blacksmithing), a teller of excellent stories.

Flexibility & Agility, No Whining, Riddles, Epic Conflict and Generous Conversation

Flexibility - We believe feedback is crucial to collaboration and we also know everyone is doing the best with the information they have. That means we want people who are quick, thoughtful, generous, and understanding about solving challenges. We thrive with people who see opportunity in awesome complexity and never let themselves be overwhelmed. When you do observe something that concerns you, you don't add it to laundry list to be addressed later, but instead, you ask helpful questions of the right people right way. Now you know about...

The riddle - Finding those "right people" might require some more thoughtful questions. Like many aspects of Trackers, navigating it's intensity is a series of fantastic riddles we will never solve that lead us to fantastic challenges and possibilities. And that takes us to...

About conflict - More than just an employer, Trackers is a community. That makes it awesome, but it also adds a flip-side to the whole idea of constructive conflict- if you don't genuinely like, respect, and care about people, if you don't prioritize relationships over your ego's need to win, you probably won't last long.

We don't avoid or pretend conflict doesn't exist. We strive to utilize it intelligently and for the growth and health of the village. It plays out in our camps and how we approach life everyday. We can always do it better. And that brings us to...

The Rules and The Code

At Trackers we only have 3-rules and a Code of Common Sense. Read on if you don't find that overly pretentious.

The Rules...

1) No one dies
2) No wounds that don't heal in 4 days
3) Follow the Code of Common Sense

The Code...

Pay attention Things like driving, wilderness survival, and compassion require it

Be Truly Helpful Don't be one of those people that only think they're helpful. Pay attention to see if you are actually being thusly.

Respect This is not something we demand, it's something we thrive by. It's about respecting flow, challenges, and the complex amazing of the nature world.

We're doing it wrong, let's do it better Egos in check at the door. This is hard work and part of that is we're always going to find a way to be even more awesome.

If these rules and our Code strikes a chord with you, please continue reading.

Every job has moments of drudgery, things you'd rather not do, but Trackers tends to inspire a lot more fun, joy, and wonder than most. People, kids and adults alike, respond to your excitement. Be responsible, do a job, but have *fun* (the fourth rule or fourth wall?).
