Job Description

The Team

In Tradeshift Pay we provide solutions and services to enable, scale and automate electronic invoice handling and payments, using the world’s largest business network and artificial intelligence in the shape of a distributed, microservice based, cloud native system.

Our Copenhagen based team, Document Processing, builds the product functionality that allows our customers to manage the execution of complex business processes by the right set of authorized users. We build and maintain a number of backend microservices and frontend apps. We work closely with two other Pay teams to deliver new features for the Pay product, also collaborating with other teams across Tradeshift to build quality, shared components across the platform.

The Role

Tradeshift is looking for a top level fintech engineer to join Tradeshift Pay as a staff engineer. This means being a technical leader with architectural ownership; mentoring and inspiring colleagues and setting technical direction; representing Tradeshift in conferences, the blogosphere and relevant open source communities; while at the same time getting your hands plenty dirty in code contributions for the strong team you will be part of, as well as for company wide projects.

What you will do

  • Take ownership of at least one architectural domain, driving the overall technical roadmap and vision for the services in the area, advising and discussing with teams (including your own) that are building services which reside or intersect with the domain to ensure coherence and direction.

  • Share your knowledge and expertise widely in Tradeshift, inspiring and mentoring colleagues in Engineering.

  • Represent Tradeshift in the P2P/fintech/Engineering industry by giving talks at conferences, share findings in blog posts, and be part of relevant open source communities.

  • Work with product managers and designers in a global environment to define and ship new product experiences, migrate existing legacy code to microservices, create new services and modules within the platform and work on feature requests and improvements.

  • Write high-quality, tested and peer-reviewed code covered by unit, component and integration tests.

  • Work with technologies like Java, Spring, Postgresql, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Elasticsearch, React/Redux, Javascript, CSS/Less, but also be exposed to DevOps technologies like Kubernetes, Docker and supporting tools like Datadog, Sentry or Splunk.

Qualifications

  • Well versed in all aspects of software development: Inception, architecture, design, specification, development, testing, building/deploying, running, refactoring, decommissioning, etc.

  • Experience with distributed, cloud native, microservice based, major scale, transactional systems. Or the ability to apply other veins of experience and theoretical knowledge to this domain in a convincing manner.

  • Deep knowledge on Java is an advantage. Experience with multiple programming languages, paradigms, environments and frameworks expected. The ability to reflect on the advantages and shortcomings in applying them to different problems and situations.

  • Thrive with hard challenges and with diving into unknown territory. Enjoy pragmatic problem solving in a collaborative environment, where the result is the focus, not the individual contributions or egos.

  • Strong in communication both with peers, less experienced engineers, and people from other areas of the business. Not afraid to share knowledge, take the lead and show direction.

  • Experienced and opinionated on different software development methodologies, including Scrum. Reflects on when to use what techniques, and applies them in a pragmatic manner.
