Job Description

Tradeshift is looking for a Director of Data and ML - who will be responsible for leading our Data Engineering and ML functions, reporting up to the VP, Data. You are an experienced technology and people leader who’s had hand-on experience in leading organizations through leapfrog transformations. Our data and ML teams are spread across multiple geographies and you will be comfortable working in a distributed team structure. You will be mentoring and growing this team to enable the company to reach greater maturity levels. You will partner with the product team, the analytics team and business partners to help craft the roadmap and execute the strategy to meet the company.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading the data engineering and ML functions in Engineering. 

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements, while keeping security, privacy and compliance at the forefront of design decisions.

  • Identify, design, architect and implement internal process improvements: automating processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure, re-engineer ML models - to optimize for scalability, simplicity and speed.

  • Partner with the Ops team and recommend / implement  the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies

  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.

  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Sales, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and plan and direct resource to support their data needs

  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Qualifications

About you:

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science, Informatics or relevant experience

  • 8-10+ years of experience in leading Data Engineering / ML teams - from a technology, people and process perspective.

  • Expert experience with AWS cloud services like EC2, EMR, RDS & Redshift.

  • Experience with Machine Learning, statistical inference or similar. Experience building software products based on predictive models. 

  • Experience with supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

  • Experience with object-oriented and functional/scripting languages (Preferably in Java, Scala, Python or C++)

  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Experience with building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management

  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets

  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores

  • Experience with AWS cloud services like EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift

  • It’s a plus if you have worked with:

    • orchestration: Terraform, Kubernetes 

    • big data: Hadoop, Spark, Elasticsearch

    • data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow

    • stream-processing systems: Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming

    • analytics tools: Jupyter, Zeppelin, Domo, Tableau, Looker

    • data integration platforms: Mulesoft, Talend
