This position is located in Edinburg, TX., (Rio Grande Valley). This position provides moderately complex technical laboratory support for the Regional Academic Health Center Medical Research Division in Edinburg, TX. Responsibilities include coordination and performance of technical laboratory duties.
Administer routine laboratory support functions of a research facility. Insure integrity of scientific experimentation. Insure safety of principal investigators, laboratory staff, and laboratory animals. Insure safe use and proper disposal of radioisotopes. Maintain proper care and treatment of laboratory animals.
Prepare and sterilize glassware. Prepare solutions, reagents, and media for use in research project studies. Perform a variety of histological procedures. Maintain cleanliness of laboratories, common research areas, and common-use rooms such as cold rooms, dark rooms, tissue culture rooms, and storage rooms. Order, receive, and distribute supplies, materials, and equipment to laboratories.
Maintain specialized equipment in a research facility. Visually inspect and insure readiness of laboratory equipment. Respond to reports of laboratory equipment failure and schedule/coordinate repair work. Maintain equipment maintenance agreements and records.
Provide complex technical assistance to principal investigators and research assistants. Work with principal investigators to formulate, plan, and coordinate research project activities. Assist in evaluation of lab methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives. Collect, examine, analyze, evaluate and interpret research data. Provide assistance in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data. Outline technical procedures to be used in experiments. Create and maintain technical reference manuals. Perform library research.
Assist in the preparation of scientific papers, reports, manuscripts, grant proposals, and posters for students, technicians and/or faculty members.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma/GED and three years’ experience or Associate's degree and one year experience
Advanced skill in procedures, techniques, and/or equipment use in a research laboratory setting
