Job Description

Upright Citizens Brigade is hiring for part-time Theater Tech positions for our soon-to-be-opened performance and teaching venue in NYC. This position reports jointly to the Venue Manager and the Video & Tech Manager.

Duties will include the operation of sound, lighting, and video equipment during shows, stage set up/break down, and rehearsing for shows.

The positions require comfort around, knowledge of technical equipment, and problem-solving abilities for any last-minute troubleshooting. A background knowledge of improv comedy is strongly preferred but not required.

Shifts can be between 4-12 hours long, and you must be available for one weekday and weekend shift.

Technicians will oversee tech for UCB house team sketch shows, UCB house team improv shows, weekend class shows, and various UCB scheduled variety shows (standup, solo performances, multimedia heavy shows). This position requires an excellent knowledge of Q-Lab, Keynote, and PowerPoint and an acute ability to quickly integrate and/or troubleshoot various transfer files. Successful candidates will be skillful using various sound and light boards and the ability to properly power up and power down equipment without supervision. Solid experience livestreaming shows on three cameras and switching camera feeds in real time will be essential. Qualified candidates possess the capability to predict and decipher performer needs and interpret creative requests, with the skill set to best communicate alongside a variety of personalities.

Qualifications

- Basic ability to operate lighting and sound equipment and video system

- Previous experience working inside a live theatre tech booth

- Previous experience (or interest in) editing video footage within a three-camera angle system

- Previous experience (or interest in) live streaming software (OBS, vMix, StreamYard)

- Knowledge of QLab, Keynote, and video editing software such as Adobe Premier and PowerPoint

- Ability to troubleshoot technical malfunctions of sound, audio, video equipment, and software

- Strong time management skills

- Ability to work 2 shifts a week and to fill in when needed

- Ability to work with/ converse/rehearse with showrunners, directors, producers, and performers

- Successful completion of a training session

- Ability to work afternoon/late night shifts

- Ability to climb ladders and stairs, move stage chairs, and wooden blocks (30 pounds), and folding tables

- An enthusiasm for comedy

Compensation:

- $21.00 - $25.00/hour, depending on experience

- 80% discount on UCB classes
