Job Description

Visa's Innovation and Strategic Partnerships (I&SP) organization is responsible for managing Visa's overall innovation agenda and initiatives and the management of strategic partnerships with critical non-financial institutions.

Visa’s Venture Program, within the I&SP organization, evaluates opportunities from around the globe, with the goal of finding investment and partnership opportunities that help Visa gain early access to emerging technologies and business models. In this role, you will work with venture capital firms, accelerators, entrepreneurs, Visa’s regional innovation centers and internal stakeholders to identify and source early-stage startups that align with Visa’s strategic interests and investment themes. You will also have the chance to help refine Visa’s strategic focus areas. You will help perform due diligence on investment deals, coordinating with entrepreneurs, other investors, and Visa stakeholders.

You will also have the opportunity to manage Visa’s relationships with our portfolio companies, including strategic engagements that may result in pilots, proofs of concept, or commercial deals.

The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative and analytical skills, coupled with an intuitive understanding of software/technology products, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with the payments ecosystem is a plus. The MBA intern role will be involved in the global Venture Program activities; the role will focus on strategic initiatives and deal flow sourcing, with some specific project-type work.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Own and lead specific projects related to Venture Program strategy, deal sourcing, and investment evaluation
  • Identify, source and evaluate early-stage startups aligned with Visa’s key investment themes and areas of strategic interest
  • Perform product, business and financial due diligence on companies of interest
  • Generate investment memos and related materials for Visa’s investment committee
  • Coordinate with cross-functional internal stakeholders to evaluate opportunities and perform diligence on investments
  • Manage Visa’s portfolio of existing investments, including resulting commercial engagements
  • Continually monitor and evaluate the payment landscape to identify potential trends, opportunities and threats


Qualifications

  • 1st year MBA students
  • A deep, passionate interest in technology, startups and staying abreast of the latest trends & technologies
  • Experience in strategy consulting, a product organization, investment banking or in payments
  • Demonstrable ability to think strategically about products, markets, competitive landscapes and their relevance to Visa’s business; understanding of the payments ecosystem is a plus
  • Prior experience in venture capital, corporate development/M&A, investment banking, management consulting and/or operational startup roles is helpful, but not required
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency with financial modeling is a plus
  • Proven ability to work independently, while managing multiple projects, often under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to succinctly distill a large quantity of information and analysis for executive consumption
  • BA/BS in a quantitative field like computer science, math, engineering, statistics, finance or related field(s) preferred
  • Team player possessing a strong drive to add value to the business direction
