Job Description

The Visa Global Public Policy team is focused on developing Visa's position on key public policy issues facing the global electronic payments sector. The team is responsible for establishing and maintaining Visa as a thought leader on these issues and proactively aligning business initiatives with policy trends and public policy objectives. The team monitors public policy developments around the world and through sound research and analysis develops novel content that helps shape the policy discourse. The team provides advice to a number of internal stakeholder groups on both mature and emerging payments policy issues. As such, the team maintains a range of internal- and external-facing platforms as distribution mechanisms for public policy content.

Position Summary

The Global Public Policy Analyst will provide day-to-day support on all Global Public Policy team projects. He/she will be relied upon as a trusted resource for the team to undertake research, analyze data, review documents, distil volumes of information into key insights and effectively communicate key findings. He/she will have a good grasp of public affairs, economics literature, legal precedent, and ideally also industry developments pertaining to payments.    

Responsibilities

  • Monitor payments-related public policy developments across markets and identify emerging policy trends
  • Develop deep understanding of Visa data and publicly available data sources (e.g., central banks, World Bank, BIS), utilizing it for content development   
  • Research key policy issues and assist senior members of the team in content development (e.g., drafting issues papers, case studies, discussion papers, fact sheets, presentations, memos, and responses to public consultations)
  • Review and write critiques of academic articles (both external and Visa-commissioned)
  • Update internal policy and regulation tracking tools and produce periodic reports for internal stakeholders
  • Help develop and evolve the team's knowledge management platform to make Visa's public policy positions, research, tools and reports internally accessible
  • Support the team's web and social media presence in collaboration with the Visa School of Public Policy and the Corporate Communications group
  • Help coordinate Visa-sponsored symposiums and other forums, in partnership with our academic partners, to promote Visa's thought leadership and industry dialogue on key public policy issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a top-tier institution, plus 4-6 years of post-university work experience in a corporate, public or non-profit environment. Alternatively, Master's degree, plus 2-4 years of experience
  • Combination of quantitative and social sciences background (strongly preferred). For example, any combination of public policy, economics, international relations, journalism or political science with statistics, mathematics, or computer science
  • Exposure to public policy and/or government affairs
  • Exposure and/or interest in retail payments, financial services and financial technology
  • Experience monitoring and tracking global developments using multiple sources
  • Ability to synthesize information into concise, cohesive, and diplomatic arguments. Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Experience with web portal management, data visualization, and social media presence preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint). Experience with databases (Access, SQL Server, MySQL) and data visualization software (Tableau, Domo) a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communications skills
  • Collaborative working style, ability to develop working relationships across teams
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones, countries and cultures​
