Job Description

Merchant Sales and Solutions is responsible for developing and managing merchant relationships and sales activities with large and complex merchants as well as supporting business development efforts to expand Visa's commercial, large ticket sales volume and market share. 

The position will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, particularly within the Acceptance, Merchant Marketing, Product, Acceptance Solutions and Interchange teams, to implement Merchant Acceptance strategies and to optimize business performance with key merchants.

The position is based in Visa's offices Toronto office and consists of the following primary responsibilities.  

Establish and manage day-to-day relationships with new and key established relationships where the focus is: 

  • Developing an understanding of the customer's business including payment strategy across all product platforms
  • Utilizing a consultative sales approach that ensures that the client's business objectives are met and that the performance metrics of their payment portfolios are maximized
  • Developing and executing customized account plans that increase Visa's sales volume and market share
  • Developing and deepening merchant relationships via sell in of Visa products and services (including prepaid, debit, credit and commercial)
  • Be the face of Visa to selected merchants providing Visa value-add
  • Provide consultative support to acquirers in developing their go-to-market strategy for Emerging Segments acceptance, provide sales training and support
  • Work with Commercial Issuers on identifying and closing Emerging Segments acceptance gaps
  • Negotiate commercial agreements with strategic Emerging segment clients to expand payment volume
  • Foster productive relationships at all levels with the client and the Visa organization
  • Participate in sales meetings and training activities

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of overall business experience with 5 years of related sales and relationship management expertise. A background in payments industry is preferred, especially in new business development/Acceptance
  • Demonstrated track record of planning, managing and closing a complex, competitive sales effort
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish effective relationships with levels including executive management
  • Ability to manage & grow internal and external resources and cross functional relationships
  • Experience negotiating business agreements and ability to enhance existing and develop new business partnerships
  • Experience working with financial indicators to measure business performance including P&L responsibility and accurately forecasting sources of cost, revenue and risk with an ability to summarize business and financial data in a useful manner for planning and decision making
  • Education: BA/BS Degree, MBA preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
