Job Description

This is a junior-level attorney position with two main areas of responsibility.   First, the associate counsel will be part of the legal team supporting Visa's Compliance function.  This entails, among other things: providing legal support on compliance policies and procedures, risk assessments, control frameworks, monitoring and validation testing, exam management, ethics reporting, and employee training; providing legal advice relating to Visa's substantive compliance areas; helping to guide Visa's global teams on compliance issues; and monitoring updates to applicable laws and regulations. 

Second, the associate counsel will help manage the internal training and development program for the Legal and Compliance department. This includes helping to identify speakers, develop course content, host training sessions, promote the program internally, coordinate team meetings, consult with Visa University stakeholders, and manage department communications about the training program.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Admitted to the CA bar (or be willing to attain CA Registered In-House Counsel status)
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal work experience
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels of management and work on cross-functional teams on highly regulated processes
  • Flexibility and willingness to meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic working environment
  • Must be able to work independently and exercise good judgment
  • Ability to successfully manage several complex projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional ethics, judgment and discretion
  • Demonstrated global mindset and sensitivity to all cultures
  • Superior writing skills and attention to detail
