Job Description

The Director, Government Relations will report to the Deputy Head of U.S. Government Relations based in Washington DC and will work closely with corporate headquarters and various global functional managers to enable public policy in alignment with corporate objectives and Visa's government relations strategy. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage a portfolio of legislative policy issues with a focus on judiciary, intellectual property, brand risk, law enforcement and congressional oversight issues related to electronic payments.
  • Educate policy makers on the role of payment networks in managing brand risk issues and collaborate closely with industry stakeholders.
  • Advance Visa's priorities on Capitol Hill and develop and implement government relations strategies to achieve outcomes that support Visa's business objectives.
  • Communicate with elected officials, policy makers and regulators to help shape laws, policies and regulations consistent with Visa's policy objectives.
  • Coordinate with Visa internal subject matter experts to develop positions, briefing documents and collateral materials to inform and educate external third parties.
  • Identify legislative, regulatory and political threats and coordinate a government relations response to promote Visa's business interests.
  • Partner closely with other members of the Visa Global Government Relations team and provide support on Visa's broader legislative agenda, including working with government relations colleagues outside the United States.
  • Maintain strong relationships on Capitol Hill and the Administration with key members of Congress and executive branch officials on the relevant portfolio of issue areas.
  • Exercise leadership in third party membership organizations to drive initiatives and coalesce support on issues important to Visa.
  • Provide extensive assistance in support of Visa's broader global government relations agenda, including regular written reports and updates to company senior leadership and preparing executive briefings for engagements in Washington, DC

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years of substantive experience in government relations, legislative affairs and advocacy. Background in the payments, technology, judiciary or intellectual property sectors is strongly preferred.
  • Reputation for strong integrity, personal character, commitment to ethical conduct and good judgment.
