Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to join Visa's Venture Program, which makes equity investments in early-stage technology startups. As part of Visa's global Innovation & Strategic Partnerships team, the Venture Program functions as Visa's in-house venture capital arm. 
Visa's Venture Program evaluates opportunities from around the globe, with the goal of finding investment and partnership opportunities that help Visa gain early access to emerging technologies and business models. In this role, you will work with venture capital firms, accelerators, entrepreneurs, Visa's regional innovation centers and internal stakeholders to identify and source early-stage startups that align with Visa's strategic interests and investment themes. 
You will also have the chance to help refine Visa's strategic focus areas.  You will help perform due diligence on investment deals, coordinating with entrepreneurs, other investors, and Visa stakeholders. You will also have the opportunity to manage Visa's relationships with our portfolio companies, including strategic engagements that may result in pilots, proofs of concept, or commercial deals. 
The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative and analytical skills, coupled with an intuitive understanding of software/technology products, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with the payments ecosystem is a plus.

  • Identify, source and evaluate early-stage startups aligned with Visa's key investment themes and areas of strategic interest

  • Build and manage relationships with external partners to generate deal flow, including with venture capital firms, accelerators, strategic corporate partners, and entrepreneurs

  • Perform product, business and financial due diligence on companies of interest

  • Generate investment memos and related materials for Visa's executive investment committee

  • Coordinate with cross-functional internal stakeholders to evaluate opportunities and perform diligence on investments

  • Manage Visa's portfolio of existing investments, including resulting commercial engagements

  • Continually monitor and evaluate the payment landscape to identify potential trends,
    opportunities and threats

  • Some travel may be required (~10%)

Qualifications

  • A deep, passionate interest in startups, technology and staying abreast of the very latest technologies and trends

  • Demonstrable ability to think strategically about products, markets, competitive landscapes
    and their relevance to Visa's business; understanding of the payments ecosystem is a plus

  • 5-7 years of prior experience in venture capital, corporate development/M&A, investment banking, management consulting and/or operational startup roles is preferred

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency with financial modeling is a plus

  • Proven ability to work independently, with limited direction, while managing multiple projects, often under tight deadlines

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to succinctly distill a large quantity of information and analysis for executive consumption

  • Robust professional network and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with investors, entrepreneurs and executives

  • BA/BS in a quantitative field like computer science, math, engineering, statistics,  finance or related field(s); MBA or master's degree preferred
