VISA is investing in technology and workforce transformation to move our current infrastructure and applications into next generation software defined infrastructures and highly available, resilient and scalable applications. This multiyear journey will transform our current infrastructure through standards based open technologies, leveraging the cloud paradigm of agility, scale and elasticity. Building and operating systems at internet scale requires software and technology discipline that also scales appropriately. Open systems Eng. and Operations group is at the forefront of this transformation leading the charge with Virtualization, Container based micro services architecture and delivery that enables the product developers to experiment and build products meeting the agility demands of the business and marketplace. The Head of Distributed Systems Application Support will be a key leader in this transformation journey by improving application support through automation, nimble processes to ensure we enable quick delivery of the applications as well as keep them running with minimum disruption. The position is responsible for all operational elements of key VISA applications portfolio and associated distributed infrastructure including Compute, Storage, Database, Middleware and other common third party technologies. This position is measured by availability, security, resiliency of the applications in production as well as keeping the infrastructure hardware and software current and upgraded. The right candidate is passionate about technology and automation, takes pride in enabling agile product delivery, working closely with stakeholders to lead troubleshooting in case of production issues and proactively ensuring monitoring, alerting is setup to enable optimal ITIL Operational Metrics.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This is senior Technical Leadership role to drive day to day operations as well as transformation for Visa’s Distributed Systems Operations teams.
• This role provides senior leadership to drive strategic vision for Visa's Distributed Systems App Operations teams.
• Operational Excellence and execution to run a 24X7, highly available production system with a high bar on Security and Availability metrics.
• Responsible for driving transformative and industry leading service delivery with a high bar on Security and Availability metrics
• Responsible for measuring and improving all ITIL Operational metrics
• Responsible for driving early engagement in the solution design with Product Development and Infrastructure Engineering Partners
• Keep systems and applications safe by ensuring security patching, infrastructure and application upgrade.
• Hire, Coach and mentor mid-level managers. Responsible for developing and nurturing the top talent
• Drive a culture of execution and operational excellence through automation and nimble processes.
• Collaborative, drive partnerships with peer and superior group to move the team’s agenda forward in creating value for Visa.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a good mix of technical, operational, managerial and leadership skills. Additional attributes include the following:
• Solid understanding of SDLC and how code from developer’s machine gets to production.
• Good understanding of various Application, middleware, integration, DB and other technology stack required to run various workloads on Unix/Linux, JAVA and Windows and .NET platform.
• Good understanding of various infrastructure technologies including compute, storage, network and how all of these fit together to deliver highly available applications.
• 15+ years managing a team of operational engineers delivering highly available applications and infrastructure solutions
• Demonstrated success in running high available production systems within a complex technology environment.
• Prior track record of transforming operations for a large organization with automation and nimble processes
• Prior track record of instrumenting, monitoring and alerting complex applications and infrastructures to ensure optimal MTTD, MTTR.
• Ability to lead production troubleshooting calls and direct engineers to quick resolution of issues.
• Application development background preferred.
• Ability to form and develop deep cross-functional partnership and alliances.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adopt communication to various stakeholders including executives, engineers as well as
• Good analytical skills. Ability to dig deep with precision questions to get to the bottom of problem.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - preferably Computer Science or related discipline
