Job Description

Our UI Engineering team is focusing on building a Component-Based WebUI with modern Javascript frameworks that are building blocks for key applications used by millions of users, including Visa Checkout. Our group is creating ReactJS based Web Common Components implementing modern front-end architecture that relies on key technologies such as CSS Modules, Semantic HTML, Isomorphism with server-side rendering etc. The team is focussed on using right technologies and methods that deliver the best possible experience to the end user.

About you:
As a senior Front-end developer, you are a smart, energetic, self-motivated and technically strong engineer who likes to work in a dynamic environment, You strongly believe in getting things done. People like working with you because you're responsive, love to work collaboratively, and care about best practices - including Accessibility and Performance. You enjoy problem solving and comfortable prototyping & navigating the entire stack, from browser to API. You are very comfortable with JavaScript as you are with HTTP proxies and web servers like Apache or Node.

This position will have a strong focus on upgrading the Visa Checkout web experience to be fully WCAG 2.0 AA compliant. You must have a passion for Accessibility and strong attention to detail. You are a developer who will not stop until you have personally verified every feature to be as accessible as possible for our millions of users who rely on our apps to pay and be paid. You will work closely with Visa's Accessibility Team and bridge the gap between the standards and feature development efforts.

Responsibilities: 

  • Experience and interest in WCAG 2.0 AA
  • Rapid prototyping with code, using modern front-end libraries/frameworks and a digital pattern library
  • Breaking new ground, researching and implementing innovative web techniques and features in solving for business initiatives. 
  • Develop a Visa branded SPA web applications using the ReactJS based front-end stack. 
  • Build reusable, clean code with performance and simplicity in mind. 
  • Strong emphasis on component based design development and create/use shareable UI components. 
  • Review and ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs. 
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability. 
  • Develop with mobile-first approach for multiple mobile form factors. 
  • Maintaining high coding standards and practices and exercise quality control on all aspects of web development 
  • Follow front-end development best practices such as code to modules, unit testing, UI validations, peer reviews. 
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders in an Agile environment.

Requirements: 

  • Strong understanding of React library best practices and conventions. Comfort with JSX is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of semantic HTML web markup & CSS. 
  • Strong understanding of modern Javascript design patterns - preferably flux based. 
  • Extensive experience with JavaScript, it's quirks, and workarounds. 
  • Experience with asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and REST APIs with AJAX.
  • Proficient knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around such issues.
  • Familiarity with front-end build/publish tools, such as Grunt/Gulp.js, webpack, browserify.js. 
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git. 
  • Excellent understanding of browser rendering behavior and performance. 
  • Be willing to help your team mates, share your knowledge with them, and learn from them.
    JavaScript-based unit testing tools preferably Jasmine.


Qualifications

    B.S in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of experience / M.S in Computer Science with 3+ years of experience -or– Equivalent Relevant Experience
    Demonstrated development experience with hand-coding advanced HTML, CSS, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript 
    Experience developing and deploying Universal JavaScript 
    Experience implementing static typing in JavaScript (FlowType or Babel) 
    Very strong JavaScript background with emphasis on performance and succinctness 
    Motivated, organized and committed to continuous improvement and learning.
