Job Description
Provide advice and counsel to business line and management on Visa products and
services (including credit, debit, prepaid, commercial, mobile, contactless and
tokenization initiatives)Advise on privacy matters, data use and data breach scenarios. Provide Canadian input
on Visa’s global privacy initiatives.Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts and other legally binding documents
(such as letters of intent, incentive contracts, vendor/sourcing agreements,
product agreements, consultant services and non-disclosure agreements)Provide support on regulatory matters in relation to the Code of Conduct for the Credit
and Debit Industry and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), and
other regulatory matters such as anti-money laundering, anti-bribery, etc.Review externally facing documentation for compliance with securities laws; disclosure
policies; data use policies and requirements; Competition law issues; etc.Provide legal support to the Visa Canada Payment System Risk Committee (including
attending meetings 3x per year) and other Visa client advisory councils where
neededProvide advice and counsel in the drafting, interpretation, and enforcement of Visa
By-Laws and Operating Regulations, including issue spotting for Canadian legal
issues with respect to Canadian and Global product risk assessments, Operating
Regulation (VORC) proposals and subsequent client communications
Qualifications
Knowledge Required
Transactional background (corporate, commercial arrangements) with significant experience
drafting and negotiating a wide array of commercial agreementsIn depth knowledge of Canadian privacy laws
Experience in the payments or financial industry preferred
LLB Ontario bar membership
Minimum of 10+ years of law firm and/or in house experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Appropriate balance between legal expertise and business judgment
Must be able to multitask and manage a significant workload and a number of clients
with minimum supervisionAbility to work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast
paced environment with special attention to detailsAbility to exercise sound judgment
