Job Description

The Global Tokyo 2020 Host Market
Project Manager
will be responsible for the leading Visa, Inc. team in the host country overseeing all activities related to the event (except Marketing) maximizing the opportunity offered by our sponsorship.

The role has three distinct pillars:

  1. Integration of all Visa parties in order to leverage the sponsorship opportunity.

  2. Team management in charge of operations, logistics and Visa’s onsite acceptance.

  3. Represent Visa, Inc. on the day-to-day contact with the external parties including serving as the on-ground contact with the Local Organizing Committee.

    This individual will report to Barrie Howard, Senior Director, based in Visa, Inc. Headquarters in the USA.

    DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Integration of all Visa parties in order to leverage the sponsorship opportunity (45%):

  • Act as the facilitator between Visa headquarters in USA, Visa office in the Tokyo, Japan Hub Sponsorship lead, and all departments within Visa activating the event, including: Sponsorship Management, Brand Marketing, Global Innovation, Government relations, Corporate Communications, Operations/Logistics, Security, Product, Cybersource, CSS, Acceptance, and Administration.

  • Educate and connect Visa Host country departments ensuring flawless integration of the
    event with the local business needs.

  • Serve as host for Visa senior personnel, facilitating orientations and tours as needed.

  • Deliver day-to-day communication to Global and Host Market teams, including updates and presentations regarding event and other sponsor activities.

  • Work closely with other Visa personnel on development, execution and tracking of Global onsite programs for the event, including: Guest Experience programs, Corporate Communications, Product Showcasing/Innovation, and Operations and Logistics.

  • Contribute to host market strategic and creative platform development and “go to market”
    communication approaches that deliver on marketing objectives.

  • Aggregate, disseminate, and track against clear, measurable host market success criteria
    devised by individual project leads.

  • Team management in charge of operations, logistics and acceptance (40%):

  • Manage the integrated event project plan, with special emphasis on tracking key milestones and deliverables for all departments within Visa activating the event.

  • People management responsibility: directly manage the local team in charge of logistics, operations, acceptance, etc.

  • Foster a strong, cohesive team and exceptional working relationships with sponsorship, marketing, product, corporate communications, Cybersource, CSS, acceptance and other Visa personnel at local office and within host market.

  • Educate and advise Visa host market office on activation of event assets. Maximize the value of services provided by key domestic sponsors, select external agency partners, and other identified vendors.

  • Represent Visa, Inc. on the day-to-day contact with the external parties (15%):

  • Day to day contact person for the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee.

  • Work with Organizing Committee to track Visa’s Goods and Services delivery across the Functional Areas of the OCOG.

  • Represent Visa at [Event] partnership meetings as required.

  • Support planning, communication, and integration between Visa and host market banks in collaboration with Visa’s host market office.

  • Act as the local Visa Inc. liaison with locally based domestic and major event sponsors.

  • Contribute to development of host market communication strategy and materials to government, federal, regional and local levels on Visa’s role as sponsor of event.

  • Contribute to local community development and support programs and project development and
    management jointly with Visa Government relations.

Qualifications

  • Higher Education/Bachelor’s degree required. MBA / Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Work experience in Marketing and/or Operations, preferably in multinational organizations.

  • Experience within Visa (Global, Regional, or Local Market Office) preferred.

  • Agency, marketing and/or sports marketing experience; global sport property sponsorship experience preferred

  • Inherent knowledge of Japan marketplace (current or recent former resident preferred)

  • Proven ability to network and build partnerships within , local businesses associations and regional and local government

  • Proven ability to manage and lead teams toward common goals.

  • Self-starter; client-oriented, comfortable working independently

  • Knowledge of payment services marketing programs preferred.

  • Experience in project management and the ability to manage multiple projects at one-time

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management/building skills, experience in client management is a plus

  • Exceptional writing, analytical, and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Must have language proficiency in English and Japanese.

  • Some international travel required.
