Job Description

Visa Developer Platform (VDP) is an exciting new initiative with an ambitious objective to consolidate multiple partner and developer facing assets across Visa into a common platform in order to simplify partner connectivity, decrease integration costs, and accelerate the pace of collaboration and innovation across Visa payments ecosystem.
 
The Developer Platform team provides the standards, subject matter expertise, and technology framework that enable Visa to efficiently package its core and value-added products into consumable services and then deliver them reliably and securely to a global developer community.
 
The VDP team is looking for a senior, highly accomplished, visionary Software Architect that is passionate about building scalable, secure and highly reliable, mission-critical software in a fast-paced agile environment. This person will help architect a state of the art developer platform, design next generation of Visa APIs and help build infrastructure to make developers worldwide successful using Visa payment network.
 
Additionally, you'll also be defining and evangelizing the API-first philosophy for all development teams at Visa. This includes engaging in technical and architectural discussions with many teams, cross functional reviews with product managers and customers, releasing generic API frameworks, and API design guidelines for new and existing products.
 
Responsibilities

Architect, design, implement a world-class developer platform with a goal to provide an engaging and immersive experience for developers that enables rapid and seamless onboarding and intuitive access to a comprehensive array of tools and resources: API console, interactive documentation, mobile SDKs and reference apps, community forums, testing and certification tools, and more
Define and evangelize API frameworks, best practices for API design and development practices across all Visa teams

Work across the organization to review and transform existing APIs and define new API services.
Partner with Product Management to define Visa's overall web services/API strategy. Work to promote culture change needed to instill a "services first" culture at Visa as new products and services are imagined, designed, and implemented.
Partner with Enterprise Architecture to define the architecture of the Platform and to develop and publish WS/API development and security standards, guidelines, best practices, and reference architectures.
Partner with Global Information Security team to define scalable security infrastructure needed to support diverse developer community.
Partner with other Product Management and Product Development teams to provide them with subject matter expertise on the design, architecture, construction, and testing of their web services and sandbox environments.
Develop processes and tools that enable Product Development teams to efficiently deploy their services through the Platform, provide access to their development sandboxes and testing tools, manage security and access control, monitor the usage and performance of their services, and resolve operational and technical problems.
Partner with other Product Development teams as they deploy, maintain, and enhance their production SDKs and web services/APIs and assist them with monitoring and performance tuning of the production environment.

Qualifications


BS or MS in Computer Science or related discipline.
10+ years of experience designing and developing complex applications.
Be equally at home in SOAP/XML as you are in REST/JSON.
Be conversant in the predominant programming languages used by our target developer communities.
Demonstrated experience with key security and integration technologies, such as OAuth, key management, message and file gateways, service/file/data bus, service registration, service orchestration, etc.
Be equally at home working with an institutional developer at one of our large banking clients as you are with a developer at a payments startup.
Financial services and/or payments processing industry experience is a plus.
Independent judgment and mature decision making skills to deal with projects that often have enterprise-wide scope and may have significant cost and time-to-market impacts.
Great time management and a passion for making commitments happen. Able to work independently, yet seamlessly integrate activities with other teams when needed.
Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex organization where the ability to partner with diverse stakeholders is critical to brokering solutions that are in the best interest of Visa as a whole.
Required Experience/Skills

10+ years of experience in systems design, architecture, and development of large scale platform and web applications.
Significant experience with and knowledge of HTTP, REST, JSON, XML, SOAP, AJAX.
Experience programming in Java, J2EE, Jruby, ROR, Node.js and Spring.
Working experience and knowledge of one or more commercially available API Gateway tools.
Mobile client-server experience, especially with iOS, Android platforms.
Desirable: iOS/Android development, Javascript, HTML5, ROR experience.
Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate technical issues and concepts to multiple organization levels inside and outside Visa.
