The Data Science team is part of the Data Product Development Technology group which is responsible for the design, development, and testing of applications that provide Visa clients with solutions that take advantage of
the power of the Visa data to solve problems in  a variety of different domains.  The Data Science team provides the analytical expertise, solutions and support to these solutions.

This position is for a highly motivated PhD candidate who has a strong desire to leverage their data science skills to solve problems in the financial services domain. You will be part of our excellent team of data scientist in developing critical  algorithms to increase accuracy and coverage our solutions. Our focus is on providing excellent solutions to our end customers.

As a member of the data science team you will:

• work with senior data scientist on designing and building analytical solutions for different domains such fraud prevention, non-compliance, enterprise risk, merchant acquisition, etc.

• employ the appropriate algorithm to discover patterns and propose new techniques or ideas to extract additional information.
  

• apply validation techniques to the results and test solution against out of time validation sets.

• Present and depict the rationale of the findings in easy to understand terms for the business
  

• Student in good standing pursuing PhD degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics or relevant field.

• Development experience utilizing programming languages such as Python, Java, R

• Knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and experience with database client tools with databases like Oracle and SQL desired

• Experience in big data related technologies like Hadoop/hive/MapReduce/Pig

• Spark and scala knowledge is a plus.

• Familiarity with deep learning

• High proficiency with machine learning algorithms

• Experience with the open source machine learning libraries such as Scikit-learn

• Strong analytical skills with good problem solving ability
