Job Description

Scope:

As a Director, you will manage the activities of the TCS staff in Foster City, California who document world-class payment technology systems, services and applications. This includes the management of technical documentation deliverables for global customers and internal staff, resource planning, staff mentoring and the
management of relationships with multicultural cross-functional stakeholders in diverse geographic locations.

Must possess a minimum of 5 years managing technical writing teams or equivalent experience overseeing the activities of Technical Writers as well as projects of varying size and complexity. Candidate must demonstrate advanced skills in leading a team of globally diverse writers of varied experience and skill levels in collaborating with project teams and product management groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor a team of technical writers to update and maintain all global customer and internal documentation, including analysis of business requirements, technical project artifacts and interactions
    with Subject Matter Experts to define and document the technical changes to be incorporated. Manage the activities of TCS’ Editorial staff and the XML Development and Support team.

  • Work successfully with other geographically disbursed TCS management and staff, andlocal Foster City leadership in managing projects and staff.

  • Collaborate with Visa’s product business owners to develop and support documentation for existing and new products.

  • Manage resource planning in Visa financial tools and collaborate with financial business partners.

  • Manage all staff professional development in line with Visa policies and required skill development for project deliverables.

  • Facilitate problem identification, resolution and prevention and do in-depth troubleshooting, escalating when appropriate.

  • Support the implementation and usage of relevant desktop publishing tools.

  • Maintain department metrics and communicate status of staff projects to TCS and departmental management.

Qualifications


  • An undergraduate degree in a writing or technology-related field.

  • A minimum of 12 year’s experience in technical writing roles, including 5 year’s relevant management experience or equivalent experience overseeing the activities of Technical Writers.

  • Proficient in leading technical documentation projects based on collaboration with project cross-functional teams, including client support, product, senior software engineers, senior architects and other groups.

  • Extensive experience with written and verbal communication for both business and technical audiences. This includes strong knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the rules of composition and grammar.

  • Experience with the localization of technical documentation and localization vendor management.

  • Capacity to work in fast-paced, rapidly changing and sometimes high-pressure environment.

  • Ability to encourage and build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members. Adept at influencing a broad and diverse group of stakeholders across the corporation.

  • Exceptional skills in developing and delivering presentations to technical staff and management.

  • Experience with relevant desktop publishing tools and environments such as: Arbortext Editor, Documentum, Adobe FrameMaker, Acrobat, RoboHelp, Illustrator, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Madcap Flare, DITA, etc. (preferred)

  • Familiarity with creating API and SDK documentation, including REST, JSON and XML; Web design tools, including Wiki and SharePoint, a bonus.

  • Knowledge of Visa transaction processing systems, applications and services are preferred.
