Job Description

The main function of the Lead Geospatial Software Engineer is to advance the efficient use of enterprise location intelligence platforms for the Information Services team within Visa’s Data group. This position will support the full spatial application development life cycle by examining current and future business processes, including geocoding requirement, assessing technology and software alternatives, deploying, updating, and maintaining tools like Trillium, Informatica, SAP, Spectrum Spatial, ArcGIS, and others. This position reports to Geospatial Location Services in Austin.

In this role, you will be responsible for organizing, designing, developing, testing, maintaining, and upgrading various GIS data & software resources in the department. The incumbent will serve as a SME for geocoding and geospatial technologies for various departments & their applications.

Qualifications

Essential Functions:

  • Design, develop, and deploy software architectures for the input, cleansing, enrichment, and geocoding of enterprise data for use in both batch and real-time environments
  • Analyze data patterns and implement software modifications to improve accuracy issues
  • Enhance and tune performance of existing data normalization and conflation flows to increase efficiency and overall quality
  • Analyzing the Department’s global Geocoding and GIS data processing needs
  • Generate global data visualization for analysis and presentations
  • Determining GIS operating characteristics and requirements for global use
  • Assessing GIS/Geocoding system designs through review and analysis of user needs
  • Gathering business and information requirements to incorporate software solutions
  • Monitoring the geocoding/GIS software to ensure proper functionality, troubleshooting software, and data problems
  • Advising and defining standards on global address data collection for geocoding from customers, clients, 3rd parties. Address validation, location visualization, and matching for client projects
  • Advise clients on various levels of address verification and their interpretation using GIS Software
  • Providing technical assistance in planning, engineering, and architecture of systems for diverse applications
  • Installing, maintaining, and updating GIS system software, reference data, and modifying system configurations
  • Generating reports and statistics to meet user and program requirements
  • Ensuring Data Quality of output from GIS systems and troubleshooting DQ issues with the vendor
  • Determine and advise the “fitness of use” of geocoded output by various software applications
    Review and monitor Visa data using cartographic visualization techniques\
  • Work with business users and developers to communicate trends and real time information through maps
  • Work with business users to develop conceptual approaches & project designs to create solutions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in a technical field such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Engineering, Business Information, Computer Science or related area required
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience required in Financial or Business geospatial systems
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and supporting business applications, creating PD’s, POCs for new tools/software for business approvals, software development lifecycle,
  • System Analysis and Design, DFD’s in corporate environment.3+ years of experience in enterprise geocoding software, resolving data issues related to geocoding, determining fitness of use of coordinates for global countries, TSS (Trillium Software Suite) or Spectrum Location Intelligence platform, and batch and real-time flows (Required)
  • Strong understanding of the principles of geocoding (Parsing/Cleanse/Profiling/Matching)
  • Strong SQL, RDMS, DB2, Oracle, Teradata, data warehousing, statistical and data analysis skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail, perform data analysis, design, develop and test solution to the problems
  • Prefer ability to code in various scripting languages such as Python or Groovy js.
  • Be comfortable using open standard data formats such as JSON and GeoJSON
  • Knowledge of WADL and WSDL and the web services each supports
  • Experience using location intelligence mapping tools: MapInfo, REGIS, ArcGIS, and Maptitude to design, build, and maintain geodatabases, geospatial web services, Social Local Mobil (SoLoMo) applications, and geodemographic analytics
  • Prefer understanding of big data processing in Hadoop and Spark
    Exercises independent judgment with little to no direction from supervisor, team leadership experience
  • Expert ability to work independently and manage one’s time, flexibility of work schedule (Required)
  • Strong presentation skills and using MS office software products, verbal and written communication skills geo-demographic analytics
