Job Description

This role is responsible for accounting activities within the Corporate Accounting team, reporting to the Senior Director overseeing the accounting of the Visa’s Corp Business Functions and the corporate accounting activities of Visa Inc.  This role will also be a shared resource and support the broader Corporate Accounting team in cross-functional activities. The Corporate Accounting department is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of Visa’s financial statements under U.S. GAAP, and serves as a partner to our business stakeholders, providing the “single point of contact” for end-to-end back office support, including the bridge to any finance operational support.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and recording routine financial transactions related to the business functions supported.
  • Complete complex account reconciliations and journal entries in support of the monthly close process. Ownership of specific accounts on the consolidated balance sheet and income statement and performance of detailed analytical review for those accounts.
  • Provide cross-functional support across Corporate Accounting for month-end activities.
  • Interaction with various levels of management within and outside of Finance, internal and external audit teams, and participation in cross-functional projects will be a routine part of the job.
  • Partner with operating units within and outside the U.S. to streamline and standardize accounting processes and procedures.
  • Complete and maintain process documentation and ensure SOX 404 compliance for functional areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reporting packages to support our SEC filings.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Accounting or related field, CPA preferred but not required, and at least three or more years of progressive professional accounting experience, preferably in a publicly-traded company or with a public accounting firm.
  • Strong technical, quantitative and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent written, oral, and presentational skills and ability to work well under pressure and interact at all levels.
  • Strong Excel and proficiency with Oracle or similar enterprise accounting system preferred
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks, possess good organizational, communication, and analytical skills, able to work independently, and be extremely flexible.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Background with continuous improvement methodologies, driving increases in efficiency / effectiveness
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control compliance
  • Welcomes challenging/complex projects and demonstrates an ability for working "smarter not harder" by making continuous improvement to the efficiency of processes he/she contributes to.
  • Teamwork is essential to the group, so it is critical that the candidate interact with other team members and managers effectively.

Success Measures and Competencies

Success in this role will be measured by work product and competencies exhibited. Short term success (6 months) includes working proficiency and execution of related accounting policies and procedures and effective team collaboration. Long term success (1 year+) will include becoming a subject matter expert in one or more of the Corporate Functional areas supported, progressively and effectively absorb additional responsibilities, and feedback from stakeholders and peers suggests meaningful contributions to the team and in support of the business.
