Job Description

The Global Business Optimization team has a simple mission: we turn massive amounts of data into actionable insights that drive business value.  Our analytic consultants and data analysts work with Visa’s clients and staff to improve portfolio performance, program profitability and cardholder experiences.  By coupling in-depth analysis of cardholder behavior with Visa’s world-class products, digital offerings and marketing capabilities, we ensure our clients’ programs operate at their peak potential and that cardholders have seamless commerce experiences in both the physical and digital world. 

As part of the Client Support Services (CSS) organization, this senior level role will be responsible for one key deliverable: shorten the distance between questions and data-driven answers for our global organization and client base.  Data and Reporting Services – a newly created function within the organization – is charged with delivering on the full breadth and scope of reporting and data inquiries for all of our business lines
across the globe.  An effective leader for this function will build the organization to be efficient, effective and
collaborative for a multi-faceted end user base, both internally and externally.  Robust automation, effective
visualization, and an understanding of how to utilize big data environments is critical.  The ability to effectively
manage a large, churning pipeline of inquiries and a suite of BAU reporting activities is essential to the success of the role and the function.  Innovation and a willingness to challenge traditional paradigms with an eye to raising the game for the entire analytics organization are trademarks of a successful candidate.  The best candidate will be able to demonstrate a cultural shift in how we derive value from our data assets and
analytic resources. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a large team of data analysts and managers to execute upon our global reporting suite.

  • Bring best in class big data and visualization practices to the overall reporting suite in partnership with analysts and technical support.

  • Oversee the review, refinement and streamlining of our reporting efforts resulting from the consolidation of various functions into a holistic organization.

  • Lead a team to build process and procedure which ensures accuracy, timeliness and
    quality of end deliverables.

  • Communicate openly with stakeholders to ensure reporting products meet business needs without oversubscribing resources – coach team to do the same.

  • Ensure commitments are kept and deviations from plan/BAU are socialized – coach team to do the same.

  • Manage the automation of our efforts as much as possible.

  • Prioritize commitments while keeping leaders/clients engaged – know how to say no in a way that keeps us on track without damaging our brand.

  • Oversee the build/development of a data inquiry process which includes data sourcing, output delivery and a staffing model to execute for a global organization across multiple business lines and analytic delivery functions.

  • Instill a culture of continual improvement and excellence with analyst teams.

  • Hire and retain quality resources who deliver value and work well within a team.

  • Blaze a trail of collaboration with insight delivery, internal business leaders and clients.  Help bring analytic solutions to bear which delight our constituents – be they internal or external.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor/expert to internal business partners on advanced analytic and big data issues.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Quantitative Methods (Math, Stat, Econ).  Comparable experience may be considered in lieu of degrees. 
  • 12 - 15 years overall experience which demonstrates a bias for action in creating data and reporting solutions with tangible business value and/or enablement of business insights.

    • 5+ years’ experience leading world class data, analytic or BI teams

    • 5+ years’ experience with common coding languages – i.e. SQL, PLSQL, HPL, scripting and/or automation

    • 5+ years’ experience using Tableau or other visualization software

  • Hands-on experience leading teams through the entire analytic reporting development cycle – from data access and enablement to end state reporting solutions.

  • Experience delivering reporting suites fit for purpose in various international markets is desirable – payments experience is a plus.

  • Extensive knowledge of integrating and leveraging data delivery tools like Tableau Server on an enterprise basis.

  • Demonstrated ability working with data warehouses and data marts designed to support actionable customer insights.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
