Job Description

The Sr. Director, Risk and Regulatory Governance (RRG) will be responsible for management of the Operational Risk Sub-Committee (an executive level governing body with oversight of operational risks at Visa), Policy Management and Regulatory Support for key markets outside the US.  The Sr. Director will play a leadership role on the team, and assist the Vice President with key department initiatives and ongoing efforts such as Goals and Performance Tracking, Metrics, Presentations and Reporting to Senior Management. In addition, the Sr. Director will provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to junior members on the team.

Description

Operational Risk Sub-Committee: The Sr. Director will provide end-to-end management of the governance process for the Operational Risk Sub-Committee in support of the fulfillment of the ORS charter responsibilities.  This entails: 

  • Ensuring comprehensive and timely coverage of risk issues
  • Proactive engagement with key stakeholders to provide the ORS with an early view into emerging risks
  • Ensuring materials are at the right level of detail, and provide a clear and comprehensive summary of the key takeaways with a focus on risks, impacts and mitigation
  • Working with presenters to prepare them for meetings
  • Ensuring that follow-up actions requested by the Committees are addressed
  • Developing and maintaining official records such as minutes of meetings 

In addition, the Sr. Director will support the VP with the setup of regional risk committees as needed.

Policy Management: The Sr. Director will ensure sound governance around Visa's corporate policies and policy lifecycle management.   This includes:

  • Management of policy lifecycle for Visa's corporate policies (creation, reviews/approval, publication, retirement)
  • Providing guidance on proposed/new policies
  • Building policy awareness across Visa so Visa staff have an understanding of key policies and implications to their daily jobs, and are aware when there are changes to policies
  • Benchmarking policy implementation by policy owners (supporting procedures,  training, change communication, exception tracking etc.) across Visa policies and developing plan to drive consistency and ensure minimum standards are met.

Regulatory Support:  The Sr. Director will work closely with the Vice President, RRG and Sr. Director of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to build out a centralized infrastructure to manage emerging regulatory inquiries globally to ensure Visa meets regulatory requirements and expectations, ensure consistency across markets and minimize duplication of efforts across the enterprise. This will entail development of standardized content, process documentation and communication, tracking and reporting. In addition, the role will be responsible for cross-functional coordination to provide review/input for responses/submissions to regulators to fulfill requirements in supervisory regimes or at time of licensing.

In addition to the primary responsibility, the person in this role may be called on to support the team on other risk governance work streams as needed, such as the Corporate Risk Committee, Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) exams, and Client Regulatory Support.

This position will report to the Vice President of Risk and Regulatory Governance, and will be based in Foster City.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in one of the following functions: Corporate/Risk Governance, Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Regulatory Management, Legal or related areas
  • Experience preparing/reviewing/delivering executive level communications
  • Experience in payments/banking or related segments, or alternately, good understanding of payments business and associated risks
  • Experience with regulator management (direct or indirect)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Word and Outlook. Visio would be a plus.
