Canada is a significant segment of Visa’s global business and presents an exciting mix of growth opportunities and challenges.  The International Tax Director, Canada is the lead tax advisor to Canadian executives, and will be based in Toronto.  The role will report to the VP of International Tax for the US/Canada/LAC region located in Foster City, as well as to the CFO of Visa Canada located in Toronto.



Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as lead tax advisor to our management team in Canada, responsible for supporting the team on all tax aspects of Canadian business, including
    • Advising on the Canadian indirect tax and general corporate tax consequences of business initiatives as well as ongoing operations

    • Advising the local management team on the impact of ongoing Canadian and relevant global tax developments to our business activities and financial results in Canada

    • Identifying, planning and implementing tax projects for Canada

    • Supporting the Global Tax team on the Canadian tax impact of various corporate restructurings and other tax initiatives

    • Supporting HQ management with analysis and advice regarding the Canadian subsidiary contribution to our effective tax rate and tax forecasts

    • Supporting transfer pricing planning and implementation for Canada

    • Oversee outsourced tax compliance activities for Canada

    • Oversee preparation of Canadian tax provision and forecasts  

    • Managing Canadian tax audits

    • Work with the treasury and others on cash repatriation, advise and execute the local planning related to dividend payments and other financing options

    • Working with the global indirect tax team on projects in other regions of the world

    • Time permitting, the role may also be involved in US and LAC region tax planning

  • Lead and manage the development and analysis of tax considerations across all functions at Visa as related to Canadian tax implications, including executives in business development, legal, financial
    planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, and HR.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • At least 8 years of progressive responsibility and leadership in Canadian taxation at a Big 4 public accounting firm, nationally recognized accounting or law firm, or tax department of a major multinational or equivalent corporation

  • Strong background and practical experience in Canadian corporate income tax and indirect tax, including experience with GST/HST/QST

  • Accounting certification (CPA) and/or legal degree

  • Knowledge/experience of indirect taxation principles in other world regions is desirable

  • Demonstrated skills in

    • Ability to work with ambiguous sets of facts and with minimal supervision

    • Ability to work with multiple deadlines

    • Technical tax research and analysis

    • Clear and concise written communications

    • Oral presentations

    • Basic quantitative analysis

    • Managing external advisors
