Job Description

1.  Purpose

  • Support development of public polices and regulations that are conducive for expansion of electronic payments;
  • Raise and optimize Visa’s profile and reputation through the delivery of coordinated communications and education targeted at key regulators, government officials, and other policy makers both directly and through appropriate industry and trade associations;
  • Secure that Visa’s outreach and messaging in the Caribbean  is consistent with similar efforts in other key markets around the world;

2. Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Area

  • Development and implementation of a Government Relations strategy in all the Caribbean but with focus on the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico to achieve agreed business objectives
  • Communication with government stakeholders that supports business objectives and enhances Visa’s reputation
  • Develop actions to allow governments, politicians, and regulators to understand and value Visa’s role resulting in an absence of regulatory barriers to industry expansion
  • Identify legislative, regulatory, and political threats to, or opportunities for Visa’s business  
  • Establishment and maintenance of a database of who we know and who we need to know, key contact dates, and opportunities for engagement
  • Ensure adequate and ongoing country manager contact with key lawmakers and regulators;
  • Establish and maintain appropriate contact with counterparts at other industry participants, including banking and trade associations

3. Reporting Relationships & Interactions

  • Reports directly into the Vice President of the region
  • Works very closely with LAC and global GR teams, country management, and other relevant functional teams.
  • Liaises closely with functional colleagues around the world to refine and exploit best practices.
  • Works with cross-divisional business teams as subject matter expert on regulatory issues and government relations.
  • Liaising with consultants

5. Required Experience

  • Degree in Law, Political Science, Economics or related field
  • 8-10 years of work experience, preferably in the corporate or public sector
