Job Description

The Communications Director for the Southern Cone, based in Buenos Aires, is a highly strategic communicator, savvy in corporate reputation and employee engagement. He/she is responsible for driving communications in the Southern Cone region (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia).

Based in Buenos Aires, he/she is a strong advisor to the Southern Cone leadership, a senior member of the Latin America and Caribbean corporate communications team and a committed collaborator within the function and across the organization, regionally and globally.

A strong storyteller, he/she finds appealing ways for our messages to resonate with internal and external audiences. With solid corporate communications, reputation and issues management, internal communications and social media skills, and strong networks of media and stakeholder contacts in the region, the communications director is committed to drive business growth with strategic communications.

Key responsibilities

Corporate communications planning and content development; external communications (65%)

  • Develop internal and external communications plans in support of the business in the Southern Cone.
  • Develop and adapt communications materials for internal and external audiences, integrating multimedia content to storytelling.  The content will be developed in Spanish or/and English as appropriate or applicable as per the local and international usage and approval processes.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, key opinion leaders and external  stakeholders across the Southern Cone region.
  • Establish thought leadership initiatives; identify, evaluate and recommend speaking opportunities for Visa executives. Develop and adapt briefing materials for spokespeople.
  • Plan and execute corporate communications events.
  • Establish corporate communications social media integration plan and execution in the Southern Cone.
  • Provide communications counsel and support to cross-functional initiatives in the Southern Cone, and to regional corporate communications initiatives.

 

Employee communications (15%)

  • Plan and execute engagement and employee communications plans for the Southern Cone Visa team. Develop content and manage employee communication channels in the Southern Cone.  
  • Work in the planning and execution of volunteer activities.

Corporate social responsibility (15%)

  • Support planning and execution of financial literacy initiatives for the Southern Cone. Provide counsel to leadership on corporate contributions.
  • Plan and execute community outreach initiatives

Program administration (5%)

  • Manage cluster region vendors in support of the corporate communications function.
  • Track and update KPIs for the communications function.
  • Closely coordinate all initiatives with the Southern Cone leadership and the regional corporate communications team for Latin America and the Caribbean

 

Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Bachelors Degree in communications, journalism or related field.
  • Minimum ten years communications experience. In-house and PR agency experience with global companies is preferred. 
  • Must have worked extensively in the Southern Cone region.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Southern Cone communications landscape.
  • In-depth experience of drivers of public opinion in Argentina and Chile; other Southern Cone markets a plus.
