Job Description

The Director of Innovation Design (Experience and Engagement) is a compelling storyteller, facilitator, and designer who is able to work through various mediums (such as video, digital prototyping tools, immersive experience activations, presentation design) in order to create and lead high-impact, scalable client engagement sessions that help accelerate clients to drive innovation forward.  This designer will develop a well-researched understanding of emerging digital payment trends and leverage that knowledge to help Visa’s partners understand our organization’s unique position within the fast-moving global commerce landscape. The Director will conceptualize, design, and deliver engaging presentations and digital experiences that immerse the audience in thought leadership and global commerce trends, effectively collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams (product, business, strategy) to deliver the right information at the right time in order to deliver value. A passion for using design as a vehicle to build relationships, evangelize a point of view, and immerse an audience in thought leadership is a must. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support and execute engagement design strategy under the NY Innovation Studio Leads to create and scale Innovation experiences and engagements in New York, Washington DC, and at other Visa Innovation locations with a primary focus on Introductory and Discovery Sessions (supporting Co-Creation as needed)
  • Deeply understand the payment ecosystem, commerce trends, our Innovation practice, as well as Visa capabilities in order to effectively speak to our clients and partners
  •  Research emerging areas of opportunity (using quantitative and qualitative techniques) and transform insights into compelling story-telling, experience design, and and presentations for client engagements (including videos, physical installations, etc) ensuring each project deliverable is of the highest quality
  • A keen eye for distinguishing good design from great design, a good story from a great story
  •  In collaboration with Innovation business and product peers, lead client Discovery Sessions (as assigned) being the voice of user experience and product design, including the facilitation of client ideation and alignment as required to drive to actionable outcomes
  • Collaborate with peers at Visa’s other global Innovation Centers to standardize engagement models, share our practice’s approach, and train others on the how and the why behind our work
  • Independently and proactively manage engagements and initiatives in a white space environment
  • Strong individual contributor while being able to inspire, mentor, and guide junior staff
  • Support NY Innovation Studio design operations needs as required including but not limited to RFPs, supplier relationships, design briefs, global design initiatives, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel – up to 20% of time (primarily to Washington, DC)

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in related field required, MS/MFA preferred
  • 10 yrs experience in specialization such as user experience, design strategy, marketing activation design, interaction design, or visual and content design with willingness to broaden your own skillset into adjacent specializations while refining mastery of primary skillset
  • Ability to tackle a diverse and complex set of design challenges and recognize patterns to help develop creative, strategic, and scalable solutions for our client experience and engagement model
  • Expert in digital design software and tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, AfterEffects, etc
  • Proficient in front end web development HTML/JS/CSS and rapid protoyping techniques
  • Expert in creating experience maps, user journeys and service blueprints, interaction models, flows, high fidelity wireframes, and UI / visual design
  •  Master facilitator with c-suite experience and proven track record running client engagements, demonstrating excellence in presentation polish, executive presence, and client orientation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (public speaking, storytelling, presentation building skills)
  •  Experience working with design systems, components, and extensible assets
  • Proven history of delivering results on time, within budget, and with high level of execution
  •  A creative optimist and self-starter who brings energy and enthusiasm to the work
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Management experience with at least 1 direct report
  • Desire to teach others through doing
  • Payment industry experience preferred, but not required
