Job Description

Specifications and Standards activities enable ubiquity by maximizing global interoperability and commonality across technology platforms, while providing the flexibility to enable ongoing competition and product differentiation by the various participants in the payments ecosystem.  Participation in standards bodies, liaison organizations and advisory groups form the building blocks for all of Visa’s existing and future products and services.

The Director, Global Standards Management, will be member of the newly established Global Standards Management team responsible for the global governance of Visa’s current participation and engagement within Industry Standards, as well as in industry related advocacy and trade associations. The Global Standards Management team ensures standards participation, decisions, formal contributions and general issue resolution aligns with Visa strategy.

The Director will be the lead responsible for managing key communications, executive reporting, training programs, issue escalation and budget management for the Global Standards Management team.  

Secondly, the Director will also develop, manage and socialize a modern and accessible knowledge management platform that will make all strategy, training and communications materials available as a repository for self-service or guided access by internal stakeholders. Relevant third party research and external materials will also be included in this knowledge management platform.

Thirdly, the Director will, in coordination with Corporate Communications, also develop and manage the Global Standards Management intranet and social presence.

The Director will work as part of a small but highly impactful group of senior thought leaders in the Global Standards Management department, which has responsibility for proactively developing the company’s overall strategy for participation in standards organizations and trade associations; partnering with other corporate functions and geographic business leadership to drive business initiatives that address or align with significant trends seen within these organizations; delivering a comprehensive agenda in support of Visa’s increased interaction with these bodies; and developing a central repository of Visa and third party research, and other relevant source material.

The Director will bring to the newly established Global Standards Management department specialized skills in communications, training and knowledge management established in a similar corporate environment.

The Director will be based in Visa Inc’s Foster City office reporting to the VP, Global Standards Management, and will work closely with two Senior Directors on the team.

 

Responsibilities

·       Ownership of managing centralized standards-related communications and reporting to multiple internal stakeholder groups, including the executive team; anticipating communications need and tailoring to specific audiences

·       Develop, manage and socialize a modern and accessible knowledge management platform to manage and make internally accessible any materials and artefacts created by the Global Standards Management team, as well as external research materials.

·       In conjunction with other team members and key stakeholders in the company, develop business requirements for defining the team’s needs for knowledge management and content repository tools; be able to work with IT and/or other key groups as required to develop and implement the tool solutions

·       In coordination with Corporate Communications, develop and manage the Global Standards Management team’s intranet and social presence.

·       Develop and maintain relationships with key participant groups within the organization, along with any external bodies directly participating in, as appropriate.

·       Own and drive all training activities for participants, including the development of course materials in partnership with Legal, IP, Public Policy, and other key contributor groups. Be responsible for all curriculum creation, training schedules, and development/coordination of both participant- and executive-level educational tracks

·       Own budget management activities including creation of budget plan, training and education for stakeholders and oversight of cost center activities across all standards and liaison bodies globally

·       Own overall issues management for the organization, working with multiple business units and other Global Standards Management team members to identify, prioritize and effectively escalate issues occurring within the broader landscape of standards organizations and trade associations

  • Key contributor to any strategic assessments/analyses the team performs regarding Visa’s current participation in global standards; contribute to position papers and recommendations

·       Ability to effectively manage, manipulate and analyze data across the entire company for Standards and Trade Associations to develop appropriate insights and recommendations that address opportunities

·       As an individual contributor, the individual must have demonstrated experience in leadership and team management and must be able to lead successfully across a matrix organization of stakeholders to execute against responsibilities – holding others accountable/responsible without have direct management oversite

Qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

·         5 years payments products, services, technologies, and innovations knowledge and experience; global client business and processing experience a plus

·         Knowledge of Visa’s business model, payment processes and products/services and Standards/Trade Associations experience is a plus

·         Understanding of financial services landscape and regulatory environment

·         Demonstrated ability to build, grow, and educate teams - directly and indirectly

·         Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to drive consensus in cross-regional and cross-functional teams.

·         Flexible and proactive trouble-shooting capabilities with the ability to manage diverse groups organized within different organizational reporting lines

·         Process-oriented problem solver who can adapt within a multi-tasking environment and simultaneously manage multiple issues and projects with limited resources

·         Acumen to analyze and present complex concepts to executives and committees

·         Project Management: analytical, organized, accurate, and detail oriented with fact based consultative discipline.  Demonstrate results to key stakeholders and global Standards participants.

·         Ability to take complex Standards related information and fold it in training as well as other insights to address opportunities

·         Highly organized with an unfailing attention to detail and able to operate across complex cross functional areas

·         Strong written and in-person communication skills, including ability to develop business documentation and presentations

·         Strong presentation skills including the ability to communicate business concepts to technical audiences

·         Self-starting team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function with minimal guidance and direction

·         Extensive MS Office skills are required, including: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills
