Job Description

This role sits in Visa’s North America Controllership team, which is responsible for the accounting and finance operations of North America and Corporate Accounting activities for Visa. The team is part of the broader Global Controllership function within Global Finance. This role will report to the Finance Manager in Austin, TX; have significant interaction with other parts of the NA Controllership team in Foster City, CA; and should be available periodically to connect with various cross functional Visa teams situated around the world.


This role will be responsible for Cash Management, and play a supporting role and backup for certain HR Accounting activities, including the accounting for share-based compensation. Responsibilities of this role:

Cash Accounting Lead

  • Cash
    accounting activities including ensuring that transactions are properly classified on general ledger for 30+ accounts across 9+ entities through the use of the Quantum cash accounting tool.

  • Assist with the maintenance of the Quantum system and management of the interface between Quantum and the Oracle general ledger (GL), including proper account set up for new bank accounts, GL accounts or activity type.  Resolve system and interface issues as needed.

  • Prepare related journal entries as needed, and complete balance sheet account reconciliations of cash accounts within the entities supported on a monthly or quarterly basis, using a risk-based approach.

  • Ensure intercompany transactions are settled  

  • Participate in pre-close and post-close variance analysis and provide meaningful insight to activity, trends, unusual and significant transactions

HR Accounting and HR Business Support

  • Support the HR accounting lead in Foster City, CA who is responsible for share-based compensation and ESPP across all Visa entities including leveraging Equity Method for reporting and accounting

  • Effectively applying U.S. GAAP including share-based compensation under ASC 718

  • Liaise with HR and Controllership counterparts in other parts of the world to support local reporting and reconciliation. This involves periodically being available for calls/meetings during non-business hours.   

  • Support the HR business lead in Foster City, CA with the analysis of business transactions within the HR function, including providing finance operational support including proper review of purchase orders and related receiving of services, preparing journal entries for accruals and prepayments, performing account reconciliations, and completing analytical review of account and trend activity.

  • Participate in cross-functional or process enhancement projects including planning, leading and execution

Qualifications

 

  • B.S. in Accounting or related field, CPA, and at least four to five years of progressive professional accounting experience, preferably in a publicly-traded company and/or with a public accounting firm

  • Strong accounting, quantitative and analytical skills and ability to accurately apply key U.S. GAAP to different business situations. Cash accounting and share-based compensation accounting experience a plus.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, with expectation of increasing responsibility and scope over time as proficiency in position develops

  • Demonstrates an especially strong sense of ethics and integrity given the nature of the role around cash and the confidentiality around access to HR data

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent written, oral, listening and presentation skills. Ability to work well under pressure and interact at all levels

  • Capable of handling multiple tasks, possess good organizational and analytical skills, able to work independently, and be extremely flexible

  • Proficient with Oracle, Quantum or similar enterprise accounting system and cash accounting tool a plus

  • Familiarity with the importance of Sarbanes-Oxley and internal control compliance

  • Welcomes challenging/complex projects and demonstrates an ability for working  "smarter not harder" by making continuous improvement to the efficiency of processes he/she contributes to and participating as an active change agent
