Job Description

The Visa Global Public Policy (GPP) team’s mission is to position the company as a leader in shaping public policies that expand digital payments and promote an open and competitive environment, helping individuals, businesses and economies to thrive. GPP develops Visa’s position on key policy issues facing the global electronic payments’ sector, illustrating Visa’s shared value with governments. The team is responsible for establishing and maintaining Visa as a thought leader on these issues and proactively aligning business initiatives with policy trends and public policy objectives. The team monitors public policy developments around the world and through evidence-driven research develops novel content that promotes a knowledge-led dialogue on digital payments. The team also provides advice to a number of internal stakeholder groups on both mature and emerging payments policy issues. As such, the team maintains a range of internal and external facing platforms as distribution mechanisms for public policy content.

Position Summary

The Regulatory Affairs Analyst or Manager, is a key member of the GPP team providing support across a range of projects and initiatives. He/she will be relied upon as a trusted resource for the team to undertake desk research, clean, organize and analyze data, undertake due diligence of external consultants’ work products, distil volumes of information into key insights, and effectively communicate key findings. He/she will have outstanding communication skills and a good grasp of the public policy making process, economics literature, data analysis, and ideally industry developments pertaining to payments.    

Responsibilities

  • Monitor payments-related public policy developments across markets and identify emerging policy trends
  • Research key policy issues and assist senior members of the team in content development (e.g., drafting issues papers, case studies, discussion papers, fact sheets, presentations, memos, and responses to public consultations)
  • Monitor policy issues in their assigned region. Build deep partnerships with the regional colleagues by proactively identifying opportunities for collaboration and delivering effective solutions  
  • Bring a regional lens to GPP content work and platform and serve as a central point of contact between the assigned region and GPP
  • Working closely with the GPP Head of Content, develop and deploy an analytics-focused research agenda that utilizes public datasets to help answer pressing policy questions
  • Develop deep understanding of Visa data and publicly available data sources (e.g., central banks, World Bank, BIS), utilizing it for content development   
  • Review and write critiques of academic articles (both external and Visa-commissioned)
  • Update policy positions based on evolving business and policy discussions
  • Make Visa’s public policy positions, research, tools and reports broadly accessible by helping develop and evolve the team’s knowledge management platform
  • Help coordinate Visa-sponsored symposiums and other forums, in partnership with our academic partners, to promote Visa’s thought leadership and industry dialogue on key public policy issues

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public policy (or a closely related field) from a top-tier institution, plus 2-4 years of post-university work experience in a corporate, public or non-profit environment for Analyst, and depending upon years of experience may be considered for a Manager role.
  • Combination of academic background in public policy, law, economics, international relations, journalism or political science with statistics, mathematics, data science, or computer science is strongly preferred
  • Exposure to public policy and/or government affairs
  • Exposure and/or interest in retail payments, financial services and financial technology
  • Experience monitoring and tracking global developments using multiple sources
  • Ability to synthesize information into concise, cohesive, and diplomatic arguments
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with statistical packages (e.g. R, STATA), databases (e.g. Access, SQL Server, MySQL) and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau)
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communications skills
  • Collaborative working style, ability to develop working relationships across teams
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones, countries and cultures
