Department Overview:

The Technology Planning & Business Operations organization provides key strategic planning & business operations oversight and integration across the Technology organization.  This includes driving investment planning & budgeting, project & portfolio management, workforce planning activities, strategic initiative program management, and communications activities. The team is focused on improving efficiencies, transparency, consistency and collaboration within the Technology organization and other key cross-functional stakeholders

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Director, Technology Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for leading the up-front planning and subsequent execution of large-scale strategic Technology initiatives that support the overall Technology Transformation agenda.  This includes management of all aspects of the strategic programs across scope, schedule, and budget components such as program management, financial planning & tracking, and governance & oversight responsibilities.  This position interacts with a wide range of stakeholders both within Technology and also with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Product, Legal, HR, and Regulatory teams.  This position will report to the Vice President of Technology Strategic Initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide program management, technical integration, and cross-functional execution of large-scale, high visibility strategic Technology initiatives.

  • Partner with key Technology and cross-functional stakeholders to drive key program activities:

    • Conduct program reviews

    • Manage program risks & issues

    • Develop integration plans across Technology functional areas

    • Provide executive management with program updates

    • Track program budgets, forecasts and schedule

  • Oversee the day-to-day aspects of key initiatives, including overall management of scope, schedule, and financial aspects of the initiative.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to the cross-functional team of project leads. Provide project teams with expertise, direction, motivation, and encouragement.

  • Demonstrate skills in conflict management and negotiation to achieve project goals and develop trust with stakeholders.

  • Manage through influence, but without direct management authority.  Use capabilities to influence customers and stakeholders, and properly manage divergent expectations.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.  Masters or MBA a plus, but not required.

  • Proven experience managing technically complex, cross-organizational, multi-stakeholder programs or activities.  Experience working within technical teams and projects a plus.

  • PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or similar certification preferred.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.  In particular, a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues and solutions to multiple organizational levels internally and externally as needed.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to think strategically.

  • Strong leadership qualities and organizational skills as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles.

  • Strong process orientation and a solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
