Job Description

The Test Engineering & Certification group under Global Network Engineering is responsible for performing network lab testing and certification both in a physical and virtual lab environment; and validation of network changes prior to implementation into Visa’s Global Network Infrastructures. 

The Staff Network Engineer candidate will be responsible for working with the following teams: Visa’s Global Network Engineering, Global Network Architecture, Global Network Operations to test and certify network changes and new designs using network modeling tools. This role serves as a technical specialist who works independently and as a member of a team, only requiring guidance in complex situations. The Test Engineering & Certification team is the only team under the Global Network Engineering organization that has the ability to work on all of the Visa network environments (i.e.: Commercial, Data Center, Cloud, Hadoop, Backbone).

Some travel (10%) may be required for training, project related and vendor visits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is an individual contributor role responsible for testing, analyzing and validating complex network configurations and designs prior to deployment in the production network.

  • Responsible for testing network change scripts using modeling tools prior to network change implementations
  • Publish the results from network modeling test efforts and review with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Position requires the use of network modeling technologies to design, simulate, test, manage and optimize network infrastructures utilizing proven best practices
  • Design and analyze network models using varying network modeling tools, and work with a team of network engineers to review results and develop configuration improvements
  • Build network models to simulate and test environments prior to deploying and implementation of network changes
  • Collect network and application information required for simulation model building and testing.
  • Perform network design analysis and configuration validation
  • Create test result reports and provide network design recommendations
  • Work under time pressure constraints and present modeling results in a clear, articulate manner stating any issued and resolution steps to Network Engineering and Network Operations management
  • Work closely with stakeholders in  Global Network Engineering, Global Network Architecture and Global Network Operations teams to understand the network designs
  • Work closely with project managers to complete testing and certification on time without impact to documented project timelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in computer science or a related field
  • Experience in network modeling using tools such as Riverbed NetPlanner, EVE-NG, Cisco CML similar tools.  This includes building of network models using data captured from Cisco Works or Intelliden or similar network discovery tool.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and very tight deadlines, including turnaround of network models in five days or less.
  • Hands on experience in Cisco, Arista, Cumulus, Checkpoint, Palo Alto and F5 platform configuration 
  • Understanding of networking protocols (e.g. BGP4, OSPF, IPSEC, HSRP, 802.11, QoS)
  • Hands on experience with Windows and Linux Operating System for application installation and resolving vulnerabilities through patching
  • Knowledge of telecommunications technologies, systems, and circuits (e.g. Ethernet, Sonet, TDM circuits etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple project and priorities.
  • A strong desire and capability to learn, grow and develop new skills
  • Minimum 5+ years of related industry experience
Nice to have: 
  • Advanced Network Industry certification e.g. CCIE and JNCIE
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related technical field
  • Network programming using Ansible, Python
